Article: The Best Version Of... Cream's Wheels of Fire and Goodbye

Recommended Posts

Can you give the catalog numbers of the Drake releases? I'm having trouble figuring out which is which on Discogs.

Main listening (small home office):

Main setup: Surge protectors +>Isol-8 Mini sub Axis Power Strip/Protection>QuietPC Low Noise Server>Roon (Audiolense DRC)>Stack Audio Link II>Kii Control>Kii Three BXT (on their own electric circuit) >GIK Room Treatments.

Secondary Path: Server with Audiolense RC>RPi4 or analog>Cayin iDAC6 MKII (tube mode) (XLR)>Kii Three BXT

Bedroom: SBTouch to Cambridge Soundworks Desktop Setup.
Living Room/Kitchen: Ropieee (RPi3b+ with touchscreen) + Schiit Modi3E to a pair of Morel Hogtalare.

All absolute statements about audio are false :)

The frustrating thing is they're both sold under multiple catalog numbers.

For Goodbye, though, it's easy to tell by looking at the photo of the rear cover on Discogs for Drake's name:

https://www.discogs.com/release/13488446-Cream-Goodbye

There are more, but those seem to be the pressings with the most copies for sale.

Wheels of Fire is harder, since there's no exterior mastering credit. I can confirm that this one is the Drake:

I have a few more copies on their way to try to confirm whether they're also the Drake mastering.

But for pressings that someone uploaded the inner booklet, here's what to look for:

Thanks. Great article. It inspired me to make another small contribution.

Is anyone else having trouble logging in to discogs? I keep getting "too many redirects" error and can't login and order a CD. I've done all the things they recommend (clearing cookies, cache, etc) and still can't login. I also wrote discogs and asked for them to check that the error isn't on their side.

Well, I actually got an answer from Discogs support. They said it's a "known issue" they have and they are working on it.

Doesn't seem like it should be something that takes days to fix.

  • 1 month later...

FINALLY got my Drake copy of Wheels of Fire. It took about six weeks to arrive via Int'l mail!

The Drake version definitely sounds better than the Japanese DSD and the DCC versions I previously had.

Thanks Josh.
