It could well be my imagination, but to me it sounds just a little less crystal clear than current high quality digital recordings.

Jud, thank you for referring to this album. To my ears, it sounds great. Of course, I'm using a simple system now, besides, I care more about performance than recording features. Nevertheless, both the quality of the recording and the quality of the performance are pleasing. I compared it with the recording of the Beethoven sonatas by the same duo, which received high marks here on the site not long ago. As far as I can hear, the Brahms recording sounds just as good. Maybe even better.
