Can someone please explain the difference between the Optical Rendu and Optical Rendu Lite? Both in terms of capability and SQ.

 

The £2000 price tag has always put me off the Optical Rendu. Particularly given how good a Pi4 with LPSU and Ropieee are.

 

If the Optical Rendu Lite offers an improvement I'd try it for £1K.

It is my understanding that the only difference is software related in that Lite only supports Roon and DLNA (Qobuz/TIDAL) protocols whereas the non-Lite version supports more items like HQP NAA.

 

As for SQ, I had oR for years but eventually switched to a fitlet2 with SFP port and have never regretted the change. One thing I did experience with the oR were occasional dropouts (a few seconds every few hours of listening). Can’t say with 100% certainty that it was the oR causing the drop outs, but I made several changes to my network and never resolved the dropout issue. Once the change over to the fitlet2, not one dropout in over a year.
