Newbie Question - suggestions for a replacement for my Weiss INT 202 Interface

Recommended Posts

Hello Audiophile Style Forum

This is my first post, I hope you can help.

My current set up is -

Mac Mini (storing all music files) OS 10.12 Sierra - Signalyst HQ Player 3.14 - Weiss INT 202 firewire interface to Naim DAC (digital coaxial cable between INT 202 and DAC.)

Is there a way to connect my Mac Mini directly to my Naim DAC without an interface in-between?  If this isn't possible, could you recommend a high quality alternative to the Weiss INT 202?  The reason I ask is that Weiss drivers for Mac are no longer being updated and I need to update my OS to version 12.0 Monterey.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you, Ian (UK)

You can use this

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Nobsound-Converter-Digital-Interface-TOSLINK-Black/dp/B072BWTCL9/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?crid=1NO1H2L32B5QR&keywords=usb+to+spdif+converter&qid=1668965663&sprefix=usb+to+spdif%2Caps%2C290&sr=8-4

but it is unclear whether you’re going to get as low jitter as the Weiss interface. On the other hand tech has advanced much.

this would be a higher end version.

what sample rate are you sending from HQplayer into the Naim DAC?

also Weiss still has modern interface you can use…

to me the bigger question is whether you would get a bigger bang for the buck by simply upgrading your DAC instead of buying an expensive modern interface. DACs have advanced a lot since 2009
