…wait a sec, hold on…yes, that is correct…the Yggdrasil+ Less is More is the same price as the original Yggdrasil from 2014, despite years of inflation, despite the additional features, despite the new streamlined chassis…oh yeah and owners can upgrade starting at $499…oh yeah and the upgrade reactivates warranty…
 
And that’s why everyone thinks we’re insane. We’ll stop talking now, and let you guys take it from here.

I applaud the continuous improvement approach the upgrade path.  But if I am reading correctly, a person with a Yggy today should not expect improved sonics, only added features, with the upgrade.  Right?

I believe the NOS mode could deliver improved sonics for some people.

With the input rate limited to 24/192 the NOS mode has limited value.

I'm not so sure the input rate on USB is that limited. Schiit retained the 8x sample rate indicator on the display for a reason.

I will say this new chassis design is waaaaaaaaay better than the previous Yggdrasils. Takign them apart to replace anything was a nightmare. The Yggy+ looks like a breeze.

Jason says it's still limited to 4x on the input right now.

As much as I love the Yggy, NOS mode is definitely limited in its potential with such a low input rate max. I hope next year brings at least 8x on the input.

 

That being said, I will definitely be placing an order for this soon and hope to keep my old chassis (which can be done for $50). Why? Sentimental value…. Lol

Schiit’s Unison  USB is limited to 24/192. To add DXD requires a brand new code and I believe a bigger DSP, so do not expect it anytime soon. If you want to use something like HQ Player, the NOS will be great.

I am planning to try HQ Player and PGGB now.

Yes, I discussed this subject with Jason in Austin. Personally I would love it as I have been bugging them about activating that 8x light for a couple of years.

If I could have Schiit take one idea from me and make it, it would be a Ragnarok with a tube pre similar to Freya inside. You guys who talk to them, tell them to make one for me.

I think Yggy will get next year a new Unison board with USB-C (and maybe USB-B as well) connectors and 384kHz capability.

At some point one has to exercise restraint and just say "no" to giving these guys more and more money! Between amps, DACs, more DACs, still more DACs, and amps again...sigh. Can't they stop making good gear for so little? And, I have my A2 boards lying around doing nothing after upgrading to LiM (no thanks to someone here who runs this website! 😉).

 

I've had so much good Schiit rotate through my systems over the years that it just seems unfair to the rest of the industry. (Although to be fair, Schiit has allowed me to clearly hear what the extra zero in various price tags buys me.) This upgrade will have to wait however. I wonder if they can use the old A2 boards? I sure hate the idea of them sitting around doing nothing.

...wish the NOS mode would allow higher input rates than 192k... Would be great at 705.6/768k or higher.

I wouldn’t mind a volume control. But I would like the option to bypass it as well.
