Gustard R26 new R2R DAC

Nah.. Same test tracks I always use. I also noticed through the days a weird effect in HQP to my favorite sinc MX filter so I had to explore others. I really liked MX on the X26, with the softness and more spread out R26, it lost the mid forwardness I had become use to.

Just a few...

Charli XCX - Move Me

Charli XCX - ILY2

Bassbin Twins - Way Out

Santero - Drop The Bomb Feat. Credit To The Nation (Deekline vs. Product 01 Remix)

Was able to give a listen to Charli XCX. and Santero. Bass is mostly electronic so maybe not the best for demoing NOS ( did really well though with Chord Mojo). You might want to try something like Hamilton musical which is pretty dynamic also but uses more acoustical instruments, shows off timbre abilities better

Regards,

Dave

Show me on this Bear where the naughty R2R DAC touched you...

It has very own, strong sound. Specially when listen via USB input. It emphasis lower and mid treble which makes all hihats, cymbals etc make louder. It's far away from neutrality I like.

It's much better through I2S. Then sound is more dependent on what's on the other end.

For instance, the Musician, the maker of the Pegasus R2R, recommends for it 300 hours of burn-in time.

I confirm that it was necessary with my DAC.

The first day, the trebles were a bit strident, and overall the sound lacked a bit of dynamics.

After a few days of burn-in, the DAC started to sound very good.

Right, what physical-chemical-theory suggests 'burn-in'? So many audiophiles think 'physical laws be damned' and/or 'digital music is different, then there is my favorite, which was stated directly to me from an equipment maker at AXPONA. He said; 'They don't use the 'special sauce'.'

Much of what is sold in the audiophile market is mostly hyperbole.

Theory of personal experience. And no physical laws has be damned - if you think different show us which law says that this is impossible.

Can you add something about R26 DAC to discussion?

Interesting DAC. Looking for a replacement for my Topping D90MQA. Via i2s. Don't need the renderer function, hopefully that can be disabled....

I'm sure just not using it wont be a problem. It is matter of switching between inputs.

Personal experience mean diddly-squat because it could be all in your head.

Remember hearing is the number one sense for hallucinations. More so than sight, etc.

This is part of the topic, it truly is.

Think of classic sales techniques? One, right off the top of my head, m-Qanon presentation at one AXPONA, The presenter explained the piece of music (usually a high-res recording they made themselves) and explain what you will hear, with 'That' system, plays the piece for a bit then stops, goes back to where they started and talks people about what they heard, 'coaches if you will', then plays the piece again. They will then compare to a 16/44 version FLAC of the same recording. If studies have said, it is a crap shoot that people WILL hear a difference and wondering if it is just 'suggested hallucination(s)' from the presenter. That is a very classic technique.

Just some food for thought....

New review on Soundnews.

Well  if you use balanced cables, you have to set inverted to on, or you will be using the old US version of balanced connection. So he was wrong on that.

Interesting.....please explain?

He said you don't need to use  phase inversion but based on the manual, that is inversion for the pins, so if you want to use balanced, at least with mine, you better have it on, it is on pg 7 of the manual. He is thinking sound, not pins. Otherwise, it is very nice review. REALLY.

There is also a new firmware update but can't figure out how to update yet. Tried it, based on a Google translation of the instructions and nothing...

Did that did nothing... I am anything if pedantic.

Mine says error device not ready, Maybe that means it is up to date, I don't know.

This so far is my only complaint.
