The Computer Audiophile
Hi Guys, I just released my article with a very brief how-to on this whole thing (link). I figured I'd start a separate thread for those of us venturing down this path. Some issues come up and hopefully we can work through them here. I'm tagging the others who I know are working with this. @jrobbins50, @El Guapo I also want to thank @ted_b for his multichannel pioneering and for helping me along the way. Anyway, post issues and questions below. El Guapo 1 Founder of Audiophile Style | My Audio Systems Link to comment
The Computer Audiophile
Here's my first issue, and I think it's related to the Music Media Helper 6 application. If anyone knows the developer, I'd really appreciate his help on this. When I play TrueHD files in the Dolby Reference Player, the first track extracted from the first MKA track (which came from the MKV), plays perfectly. It's this way on every album. Subsequent tracks always make the Reference Player throw up an error. The work around for this is to set the output to 8 channels, open the file, then set it back to 16 channels. If I play the TrueHD file extracted from the MKV, as one long track, everything works perfect as well. It's ask if MKA files after track 1, don't contain the correct channel information to be extracted into TrueHD files. When I look at the codec information between the files, there is a difference. Here is the info from track 1 that works perfectly. Quote Audio: Dolby TrueHD: Format info: Stream type: FBA Sample rate: 48 kHz Dolby Atmos: True Peak data rate: 5434 Number of substreams: 4 Bit rate: 16032 kbps Dynamic range control: Dynamic range control startup gain: 0.28 Presentation info: 2-channel presentation: Mix level: 105 dB Dialogue normalization: -31 dBFS Dynamic range control mode default: Off Presentation type: Independent Dynamic range control gain update: 1.00 Dynamic range control time update: 1 Channel format: Stereo 6-channel presentation: Mix level: 105 dB Dialogue normalization: -31 dBFS Dynamic range control mode default: Off Presentation type: Independent Dynamic range control gain update: 1.00 Dynamic range control time update: 1 Channel assignment: L, R, C, LFE, Ls, Rs Channel format: Not Dolby Surround EX 8-channel presentation: Mix level: 105 dB Dialogue normalization: -31 dBFS Dynamic range control mode default: Off Presentation type: Downmix of 16-channel presentation Dynamic range control gain update: 1.00 Dynamic range control time update: 1 Channel assignment: L, R, C, LFE, Ls, Rs, Lrs, Rrs Channel format: Not indicated 16-channel presentation: Mix level: 105 dB Dialogue normalization: -31 dBFS Dynamic range control mode default: Not applicable Presentation type: Independent Dynamic range control gain update: 1.00 Dynamic range control time update: 1 Number of elements: 16 Channel distribution: Disabled Bed-object channel configuration: LFE Number of dynamic objects: 15 Here is the info from track 2, that gives the error. I BOLDED the only differences between the files according to the Dolby Reference Player. jrobbins50
Chris, this could explain why the Auto format setting allows the separate files to be played through, one to the next and in reverse. The default is back to 2-channel because the metadata is missing and once the default is running, the files play fine? JCR Link to comment

The Computer Audiophile
I’ve been working with the developer of the Music Media Helper app and he believes the issues is with MKVToolNix, the backend for his app. I will try to contact the developer.
