Popular Post 3dsoundshop
Hello A16 owners... I'd like to take this opportunity to introduce you to a new passion project the I have developed specifically for owners of the Smyth Realiser A16. The website is https://3dsoundshop.com/ and was launched on 08/16/21 Some Details... Universal PRIRs... Through the website... 3Dsoundshop is offering custom "Universal" PRIRs to existing owners of the Smyth Realiser A16. These PRIRs have been produced in a sound controlled recording studio with the enhancement of room correction and bass management software. These PRIRs are available for purchase and download via the website. The listening rooms (Both 9.1.6 and 15.1.8) available for purchase are made up of the following speakers brands. Dutch and Dutch - Delayed Genelec Bowers and Wilkins Focal Buchardt JBL KEF Paradigm Kali Klipsch ** "Universal" PRIRs are for the A16 owner who does not have access to loudspeakers, space or time to take their own measurements, or access to a recording studio for "In Person" PRIRs, etc. In Person PRIRs... For those looking for the best possible sound experience from their A16... "In person", recording studio PRIRs will also be made available (by appointment only) for purchase through the website. (The recording studio is conveniently located just 20 minutes from the Newark airport in New Jersey.) * That being said... the speaker brands in the list above may not necessarily be the same speakers used for "In person" PRIR measurements. These details are still being worked out. For Certain... "Universal" and "In Person" Dolby Atmos PRIRs are available in at least 16 channels (9.1.6). The studio size does allow for a complete Dolby Atmos experience... without compromising on any of the speaker location specs that Dolby requires. The recording studio is perfect for near field captures. The goal was to use a space just large enough to achieve a multi-channel, single listener experience... and just small enough (with the help of room correction) to eliminate the sound of the room. If preferred... "In Person" Dolby Atmos PRIRs can be done with (most) customer owned (bookshelf sized) speakers. "In Person" PRIRs will only be done on weekends, and by appointment only. Website Content... Easy and intuitive navigation. FAQ - Most commonly asked questions. Listening Room Details: Speaker brands and models used as well as detailed speaker specifications. KMan
Regarding 3DSoundShop and John, I recently acquired a A16 from a friend of mine who was finding very little use for A16. Some background: I have a 7.2.4 setup at home and my primary intent with A16 was for movies, not for music (while with A8, I have was able to replicate my 2ch setup, when it came to the ultimate fidelity, I still preferred my real 2ch setup. For up to 8 Ch and I already have my own HRTF for a 8 Ch setup measured at my ear drum using fiber optic probes and do my own mixdown using Jriver and VST plugins. So A8 is collecting dust for now. I had been eying A16 for a while and I was waiting for the FW to mature and also stabilize, and I have been following this thread. Dolby Atmos at 24Ch, to me is the biggest selling point on A16 beyond what I already have, it will provide me with the convenience of watching Netflix/Amazon Prime/Disney+ from the comfort of my home office, sitting 1m away from a 42inch 4k monitor over the headphone, without worrying about disturbing anyone. and I turn on my sub for some tactile feedback. 3DSoundShop: However, what kept me from acquiring a A16 was the lack of personal PRIRs, it is relatively easy to acquire 8ch PRIR, but 24ch Dolby is a order of magnitude more complex. Based on my past experience generic PRIRs and those measured by others (no disrespect to those who did it), I was quite skeptical that A16 will be of any use to me without my own measurements. Then I came across 3DsoundShop, and got to try many of the demos they had. though they were not perfect, they were better than any of the (non personal) PRIRs I had used before. There was no front-back confusion and the localization of all channels were quite good, and to my ears they sounded like the sound appeared to arrive from about 1.5m (the center channel is an exception, which was about 1m which is quite hard to nail without head tracking). What I liked about the demos where they were quite consistent across the many speakers they had and the quality was great (clean, not much reverb but not dead either). I also saw that there may be an option to do personal PRIR measurements (and I will be the first in line when that happens). So the existence of 3DSoundShop was the single most important reason that convinced me to acquire a A16. I have had multiple conversations with John (who runs 3DSoundShop), he has been patient in answering my questions and I only respect hem more after talking to him and understanding the level of attention to detail taht went behind making the measurements and the quality shows in both subjective listening and also in my objective measurements I made. After my first conversation with him, I bought three of the PRIRs (Focal, BW and Genlec). The jury is still out on what I prefer, but leaning toward Genlec for now. What now: I have had A16 for a few weeks now and have been learning it (I wish there were a more comprehensive user manual in English, and I would not mind paying to get one). For the time being, John was nice to answer a few questions I had. While A16 has quite the steep learning curve just like A8, I find it a bit more mature in terms of stability and also logically organized menu, so I think I got the hang of it without having to look at the manual. I compared the built in rooms with 3DSoundShop PRIR, I prefer 3DsoundShop for both the distance perception and quality. The 3DSoundhsoopPRIRs present the virtual speakers in a more natural Spherical soundstage. Going in I had realistic expectations, I was not expecting the PRIRs to be as good as my personal PRIRs, when I imported my 2Ch A8 PRIR into A16, I still prefer my personal PRIR, it had greater depth and a bit more realism, though Johns PRIR was bit more clean. What I expected from the PRIRs I bought was to offer reasonable depth and good localization for movies, which is what I got. I read HPEQ and manLoud would improve things, so I tried HPEQ, but for some reason it turned out quite a bit wonky. Instead I just did manLoud EQ setting the HPEQ curve to flat. I plan to do a more detailed writeup on how I did the EQ (I took advantage of being able to measure the EQd PRIR). After I did the EQ, localization improved and the biggest change I heard was in the vertical channels and of course tonality was closer to where I prefer. What next: I plan to continue experimenting and I also plan to write a more detailed writeup on the measurements and HPEQ/manLoud. I am trying to figure out a easy way to replace the front two channels John's 13.1.10 PRIR with my own and also drop the center channel. Interestingly, when imported my PRIR they seemed to be magically level matched to John's PRIR. Right now I am using Nvidia Shield Pro for Netflix/Amazon/Disney but for some reason Dolby Atmos never shows up (5.1 only) for amazon and Disney+, while with Xbox I have no such issues (I hate to steal the Xbox from my kids ). any suggestions to get Dolby Amos going on Nvidia Shield TV Pro for amazon and Disney+ is appreciated. ps: I was informed this may be because my 42 inch Dell monitor does not support HDR (which is required for Atmos on Shield with Amazon and Disney), but I am open to any workarounds if there are any. Disclaimers: * was not compensated in any form to do this either. * PRIR are quite personaly, what works for me may not work for others, so it is best to try the demos. 3dsoundshop 1 Desktop: AMD Server(AL Roon Core/ HQP NAA) >> Fiber >> DAVE >> (2 x HFC Trinity Helix) >> LCD-5/(KGSSHV Carbon CC + CRBN)/ Omega CAMs [Everything plugged into Sound Applications TT7] Link to comment

Popular Post phoenixdogfan
This is a review of 3D Sound Shop. I'm putting this out to coincide with John's release of the Dutch & Dutch 8C Universal Prir on Black Friday. I had the pleasure of being in studio with John and the D&D's when John took the measurements for this PRIR and had the benefit of having an in person measurement (PRIR) made of these remarkable speakers which I've been able to enjoy for the last six weeks. I'll cut right to the chase: It sounds absolutely incredible. John made for me a PRIR which includes every ATMOS speaker included in the current A16 profile. It's easily the best sounding system I have in house, and I own LS50 Meta's with SB2000 sub and OG LS 50's as my surrounds. This PRIR sounds much better than that speaker system which is driven by Octo and Purifi electronics with Dirac Live room correction. Yes, the D&D PRIR is better. than my actual high end 4.1 speaker system. Likewise it sounds better than the 23 channel in person PRIR I made of my LS 50 Meta's. The D&D's are just superior speakers, and John's professionalism in making these measurements is better than anyone could duplicate at home. I've personally made two PRIRs myself, and the quality of the PRIRs went no higher than the mid 60's on SNR. Chalk that up to my noisy environment. By contrast, when John did the measurements in the 3D Sound Shop, the SNR was far better. When I went in the studio where we took the measurements, it seemed quieter than a church, and that made quite a difference. I believe that's why SNRs of those PRIRs handily exceeded my home measurements. And the difference is clearly audible. The 3D SS D&D PRIR has a noticeably lower noise floor than my 23 channel Meta PRIR. And thanks to the cardioid bass on the D&D's the lows are much more articulate and defined than my Meta+SB2000 setup. The dimensionality of the D&D's also shine through on the PRIR. It clearly lives up to the 3D moniker of the business. I made two presets of D & D listening rooms. One is a multichannel room (Atmos 13.1.10, DTS-X 7.1.4. PCM 9.1.6) and the other a 2.0 room for 2 channel audio exclusively. These have become my go to settings for Movie Watching, as well as for listening to streaming music. They have better dimensionality and clarity than the Realizer room captures I loaded off the common Google drive as well. I've downloaded more than 15 PRIRs from the Google drive, and very carefully done manLouds on each of them. After careful listening to each of them, I now suspect very few have been recorded with the care that John has employed. A couple at most sounded good, such as the MiCasa 7.1. which tells me that if a BRIR is very carefully recorded it can be quite good, but also not very good at all if great care is not observed in the capture process. Which brings me back to John's business. For the longest time everyone has wondered when the Smyth's would open up the Realizer Exchange, and obviously the RE has not materialized to date. But guess what? John with the 3 D Sound Shop offerings has stepped into the gap. Having been in studio with him, and seeing how professional and methodical he was in capturing the D&D system convinces me that what he's putting out is the next best thing to an in person PRIR, and will create a high quality product. Moreover, his menu includes some of the most coveted speakers in the world. I don't know what the Realizer Exchange if it went live tomorrow could do that's superior to his operation. 3D Sound Shop is the Realizer Exchange only better. I think the D&D Universal PRIR will be a winner. What they do well (cardioid bass, superior sound staging, flat fr) will carry over even if it's not an in person PRIR, and anyone who buys it will have a future proof 24 channel PRIR that can be used to make whatever listening room the Smyth's make the Realizer capable of rendering. And if you have an opportunity to get into studio with John to make an in person measurement, jump on it. You will have a great experience, you'll have a lot of fun, and you'll make a new friend. And you will come away with a PRIR which is capable of realizing the fullest capabilities of the Realizer. In talking with John, I understand he will have other high quality speakers available for personal measurement, including the LS 50 Metas which will undoubtedly make a superior 24 channel PRIR in a studio environment. So whether it's an in person or a Universal Prir you purchase over the internet, 3D Sound Shop will help you get the most out of your Realizer investment. Not to be missed. 3dsoundshop, Richter Di and ThomasJohann 3 Link to comment

3dsoundshop
Hello Friends and Realiser enthusiasts. I just wanted to take the time to express my appreciation to all of my new friends who purchased a PRIR(s) and or supported my endeavors at the 3DSoundShop. The last two weeks have been a very humbling for me. Best of all, more and more Realiser owners will now get to experience the true magic of the Smyth Realiser A16. Thank You! As you may know, Because of my new "Member Of The Trade" status on Head-Fi, I am no longer allowed to post any content on that forum relating to my business. This is very, very limiting because my business and the Realiser are linked in just about every way. But thankfully, the owner of this forum was gracious enough to allow me to post here... with no limitations. I hope that in addition to sharing encouragement, basic instruction and technical details... as a community, we can share our best A16 experiences with each other. I look forward to hearing form you. Popular Post 3dsoundshop
My first technical post will be about the Dutch & Dutch 8c PRIRs I wanted to share some insight on why the Dutch & Dutch PRIR comes with both a Movie and Music version. The main difference between the Movie (Full) and Music (Flat) versions of the PRIR is in the incorporation of the subwoofer with the individual loudspeakers. The Movie (Full) version uses a SW to extend the frequency response of each individual channel as well as adding a separate channel for LFE. This is ideal for the audio of films. Tradition bass management procedures were used to seamlessly incorporate the SW with the individual speakers at around 60Hz. (Notice the smooth transition of the SW with the left and right channels in the image below) The Music (Flat) version does not incorporate a SW with any of the individual speakers. But rather relies on the full frequency response of the Dutch & Dutch speakers themselves. This PRIR was made specifically for the music lover who wants to hear the pure sound of the Dutch & Dutch speaker without the added response or color of an external SW. Notice the dip near 60Hz in the image below. Also, if you were to use the Music (Flat) version of the Dutch & Dutch PRIR to watch a multi channel film, you would quickly notice the lack of bass... especially because of the absence of a SW for the LFE channel. To remedy this... You could easily import just the SW from the full version of the PRIR into the flat. While you would still maintain the purest sound of the Dutch & Dutch speakers... You would be adding a true SW to the listening room to handle the needs of the LFE. To take the SW / LFE audio experience a step further... one could use an even more exaggerated Virtual SW for the LFE Channel. The SW for my Genelec PRIR works great! Although it was captured in the same recording studio and in the exact same location as the Dutch & Dutch SW PRIR... It has a very different and somewhat exaggerated sound. If you own my Genelec PRIR, give it's SW a try with the Dutch & Dutch Music (Flat) versions. Let me know what you think. If you don't own my Genelec PRIR... request it's SW via PM. I'll send it to you to try. PS. The Subwoofer used for the Dutch & Dutch PRIR is the Paradigm Seismic 12. Popular Post The_Jazzfan
As a Dutch & Dutch 8c owner who has struggled to create my own 9.1.6ch 8c PRIRs, I applaud John for what he's accomplished with the Realiser and the Dutch & Dutch 8c. For some context, the 8c is a 3-way all-in-one active DSP-based system that allows me to achieve 20Hz-20kHz in my 15'x30' room (without an external sub). Keep in mind the 8c is a stand-mounted speaker, not a floor-standing tower. The 8c package is an amazing accomplishment in its own right. A Dolby Atmos system based on the 8c in the real world is indeed a unicorn. But that is exactly what John has accomplished. He's created what amounts to a dream Dolby Atmos HT system, the likes of which will never see the light of day due to its extreme cost and complexity. If the 8c PRIRs John has created work for you, you will be treated to an experience that is nothing short of extraordinary. Well done, John. 3dsoundshop and phoenixdogfan 1 1 Link to comment

I too love the sound of the two channel set up... But the (Flat) PRIR really shines with multichannel music as well. You might remember... In addition to the two channels we created for you... I also created 24 more channels for the Dutch & Dutch Music (Flat) PRIR. It was my intent for users of the (Flat) PRIR to enjoy the pure sound of D&D for with their SACDs, DVD-A, and Atmos Music. So adding an actual SW to the (Flat) PRIR works really well and ads some extra punch to the mix. But you're right... Popular Post 3dsoundshop
Hello Friends… Lately, I have been using my Realiser to playback all of my favorite multichannel music. Well, if that doesn’t seem that particularly special… Read a little further… I have been doing it in a way that most people may not have tried. I am using the Realiser as a Roon Endpoint. Since Roon’s interface, cataloging, artwork, and overall ease of use are why we spent hundreds of dollars on our subscriptions… I was hoping there was a way to use Roon with the Realiser. Turns out it is possible. If you use an Intel NUC (or another device with HDMI) to run Roon ROCK (not sure about the Nucleus) and it has an HDMI port… you are in luck! You can easily use Roon to send you multichannel music files to your Realiser A16. How to set it up. You need an Intel Nuc (running Roon ROCK) with an HDMI (mini or standard) port. Keyboard, HDMI cable, optional HDMI Mini Adapter, and Monitor/TV Hook up the Intel Nuc to your Keyboard and Monitor/TV using and HDMI cable… It may be necessary to use an HDMI Mini Adapter. Power on the NUC. At startup, press F2 to enter Setup. Using the arrow keys of the keyboard… Highlight ‘Advanced’ and press enter. Next use the arrow keys to highlight “Devices” and press enter. Next using the arrow keys, highlight the “Onboard Devices” tab. Make sure the ‘HDMI/Display Port Audio” is checked. Press F10 save an exit. See Image below: Connect you Intel NUC to an HDMI input of your Realiser A16. Take note of the HDMI input number. Turn on the Realiser. Wait for boot to complete. Open Roon via iPad or Desktop. Navigate to Settings > Audio. Look for THE “Connected to Core” section. Look for the first HDMI connection labeled “HDA Intel HDMI 0” this should be the output of the Intel NUC. Click Enable. A black space will be provided to rename the HDMI connection. I chose “Smyth Realiser A16” Then click on the gear and choose “Device Setup” This will open a new tab. Click “Show Advanced” and scroll down as far as you can go. Change the “Channel Layout” to “7.1” and “Multichannel mixing” to “Channel mapping only” Click Save... To change the player output click on the current device in the bottom right hand corner of room... change it to the Smyth Realiser A16 is (or whatever you named the A16) See images of the process below: Back to the Realiser. Create a new preset using the HDMI input of the Intel NUC. I personally use the same listening room regardless of audio type. You now have the ability to enjoy up to 8 channels of Multichannel music in these formats: FLAC, WAV, DSF, DFF, AIFF, ALA, and AAC with the beautiful interface of Roon. You can also play files encoded in DTS and Dolby through the Realiser. Please note any non PCM format played back through a device that is unable to decode it… Will most likely play back a dreadful “hiss” or static type sound.
