What different nuc to try ..

Hey there.. I'm currently using a nuc7PJYH running audiolinux.

I wouldn't mind trying a different nuc and ram to see if there is an upgrade in sound quality.. if possible.  Any suggestions  ?

Do the late model nucs still work with AL ?

Why a different NUC, why not let go of the format and aim for best sound quality?

A NUC decked out with 'special' parts gets expensive real fast too, and CPU with more grunt sounds better and most audio grade parts do not fit in a NUC ( I had to mount the JCat USB card and SSD on the outside without the bottom lid in place.

ISP, cat8.1, Zylix switch on LPS, Finisar <1321>Solarflare 8522, AMD 9, Aorus X570 Master, Corsair AX1200i, 16Gb Apacer Ram, Pink Faun I2S OCXO on LPS, home grown RJ45 I2S cable, Metrum Amethyst (modded to accept I2S), Klangfilm 204a, Klangfilm Trionor (3Tesla 835, JBL2402)

I honestly do not know, I think it all depends on what you ae looking to spend/ AKA how wild you want to go. Building a good linear PSU for a NUC is only a bit less expensive as the power draw is lower.

My current build in progress is mostly expensive because I want to audition every change and tinker around with most components (I went through 4 different CPU's), surely a high end gaming MB is expensive but when you source your parts from the used market you can keep cost down unless you compare it to a used NUC.

Sound wise they are worlds apart, my NUC sounded sweet and pretty good, compared to what I'm now hearing it was shy...

If you want to upgrade from NUC, I recommend go straight to desktop motherboard.  To keep cost down, you can start with Intel Pentium SoC mini-ITX motherboards where the CPU and passive heatsink are already included.  I have good results with Pentium Silver J5040 and its cost is lower than NUC.

Start with 12V DC LPSU powering DC-DC ATX like PicoPSU, and 5V DC for SSDs and USB regen card, if any.  Later you can upgrade to full ATX LPSU.

NUC has limited / no upgrade path unlike the cheaper mini-ITX Intel SoC-onboard motherboards.
