The Computer Audiophile
Hi Guys, as the title says, is anyone using QuTS Hero OS yet, rather than the original QNAP QTS OS? I'm going to convert my QNAP TVS-872XT for testing. There are some benefits to QuTS Hero but not sure any of them matter for a music storage NAS. https://www.qnap.com/quts-hero/en-us/ Founder of Audiophile Style | My Audio Systems Link to comment
The Computer Audiophile
@EvilTed Have you looked into QuTS Hero yet? Founder of Audiophile Style | My Audio Systems Link to comment
Kal Rubinson
Deterred by this: Expanding the storage capacity of a QuTS hero NAS requires adding a complete RAID group to the Storage Pool. Once a RAID group is created, it does not support expanding a RAID group by adding an individual hard drive and does not support migrating RAID levels. Dan Gravell
Is QuTS hero going to replace QTS long term? Seems odd to have these as separate products, can't we just have QTS with ZFS if that's what you want? bliss - fully automated music organizer. Read the music library management blog. Link to comment

(facetious, tongue-in-cheek, Extreme Sarcasm, etc..) At this point it looks that Hero is compatible with only a few devices. And the "smallest" has 6 drives which really limits the user base. "QTS Hero" is easier to say than "QTS for ZFS Compatible Devices". I do not know enough about NAS OS architecture but I would be surprised if it became backwards compatible to much extent. I do not hold out much hope for my machine. madfonzy
I've just setup a second new NAS TS-873A with 8 x 14tb drives in raid 6 using QTS Hero. I've looked in the App Store and there is no Roon app available. I have my other NAS TVS-871U which I am using to store music for now and this has my Roon core. It's running the normal QTS. So it doesn't look like I can test out Roon from the new NAS. Not game to manually load the app either as I got hit with the ransomware backdoor earlier this year. Link to comment
