Representative Shin Jun-ho: I can't explain everything because it's a patent, but I can explain how this module forms an electric and electromagnetic fields to eliminate noise that interrupts the signal passing through itself. A lot of RFI noise comes in with a LAN cable, but this cannot be removed with a conventional low-pass filter. This can also remove the noise contained in the signal itself.

 

-Is it not only the electromagnetic noise but also the noise of the signal itself?

 

Representative Shin Junho: That's right. Digital signals generate new noise during the transmission process. Noise due to mutual interference. The noise can be severe, especially if you have multiple pairs of data cables.

 

-Looking at the LAN noise isolator, a short LAN cable is set. Do you connect this cable to the LAN terminal on the network device side or the audio device side?

 

Representative Shin Junho: It depends on where the noise is generated. If you have many network devices, connect the short cable that came with them. In a word, connect the WLAN-Isolater to the side closer to the noise. That way you can get rid of the noise faster. Therefore, it is not recommended to attach it to the WCore side (with less noise). Because there is no difference. On the other hand, if you connect a long LAN cable closer to the noise, the cable itself will cause jitter.

 

LAN cable and electromagnetic noise

In summary, the WLAN-Isolater is centered around the LAN noise isolator module, which "forms an electric and magnetic field to remove RFI noise coming in on the LAN cable and noise created by the digital signal line itself." Will do it.

Radio frequency interference, or RFI (Radio Frequency Interference), refers to when EMI noise occurs in the radio frequency band (10kHz to 1GHz). The RFI noise of audio is fatal because this band affects not only the audible range (20Hz to 20kHz) but also the overtone range (6kHz to 20kHz) that determines the timbre and spatial feeling of the instrument. Bands that are safe from RFI noise include microwaves (1GHz to 100GHz) and infrared rays (300GHz to 430THz) that are unrelated to audio and video signals.

 

And, as is well known, a typical solution to block these EMI and RFI noises is shield. However, Webersa explains that not only this shield but also electric and magnetic fields are used to block RFI noise. Therefore, the author speculates that Webersa's LAN noise isolator module is a kind of active shielding that removes electromagnetic noise coming in from the LAN cable.

 

The basis for this estimation by the author is the photograph published by Webersa. Eight very thin coils are connected to each of the two LAN ports of the WLAN-Isolater, and each coil goes around a disk-shaped module and is output to another port. In other words, these coils wound around the disk act as a kind of solenoid coil to form an electromagnetic field, and this electromagnetic field rides on the coil and "cancels" the electromagnetic noise that has "already" entered. When I listen to it with the isolator turned on, a really quiet background unfolds. It's been a while since the texture of the cello sounds so lively. The violin that appeared subsequently gives a rougher and more linear sound than the cello.

 

When the isolator is pulled out and the LAN cable is directly connected, the cello becomes thin and there is no thick texture. It feels like both sides of the stage have been cut off. The recording is in the auditorium of the University of Munich, but it is regrettable that the reverberation is small. When the isolator is turned on again, the fricative sound of the cello bow and strings and the violin-specific sound can be heard better. Whether or not the stage can be expressed widely, I think that is the big difference with or without an isolator.

After reviewing various audio accessories, I realized that the effect is very large when electromagnetic noise is surely removed. As far as networks and LAN cables are concerned, for example, nuprime's switching hub Omnia SW-8 and Siltec's LAN cable Royal Signature Network Crown have achieved brilliant sound quality improvements. It is beyond imagination that electromagnetic noise deteriorates sound quality.

Webersa's WLAN-isolator also removed the electromagnetic noise that came in on the LAN cable, showing a clear effect of improving sound quality. The biggest change was that the stage background became quieter and each sound became cleaner, and then the sound stage became wider and the sense of space increased, and it was also noticeable that the energy, especially the energy in the low frequency band, increased. It was. Significant changes have occurred in many more respects.

 

In addition to this, there is no need for a separate power supply, and there are also advantages such as the fact that the ON position can be freely selected according to the noise environment, such as between the LAN port and router on the network device side, or between the router and device. .. Now that streaming sound sources have become mainstream and LAN cables have become essential, it seems that Webersa has done the job of solving the problem again. I would like to seriously recommend a comparative audition.

The Waversa Lan Isolator is passive device, qutie a different design or approach to deal with the isolation from EtherREGEN.  We experienced the Waversa Lan Isolator is more natural sounding while optimise the details from background.
