Internal hard drive or exernal hard drive?

Recommended Posts

I'm closing in on a concept for my HTPC (mainly going to be playing FLAC music, but also 1080p video). I'm a bit confused as to which type of hard drive to implement.

I've read both persepctives. Some say external hard drive will keep the PC quieter and others say to go with internal hard drive. Which should I implement?

I should mention, I will be connecting the unit to an asynchronous USB DAC.

I am also wondering whether I should put a SSD in there to run windows and the media software. Thoughts?

HiFi: Windows 7 Machine running roon core > NetGear switch > UltraRendu > Schitt Eitr > MusicHall 25.3 DAC > Rega Mira3 Amp > Rega RS5 Floorstanders.

Whole-house Audio: Windows 7 Machine running roon core > NetGear switch > Windows 7 form-factor PC > ESI Gigaport HD+ > Russound 850MC Amp > Paradigm in-Ceiling speakers.
