Popular Post The Computer Audiophile
Hi Guys, many of you know him as @sandyk and have had spirited conversations with him over the years here and on other forums. I just received the sad news that he has passed away. Here's what I received. "I'm sorry to say that Grandpa passed away at 8:27pm tonight at Wyong hospital. He went into the hospital in an ambulance very early morning around 1:30am after vomiting. Doctors found Bowel obstruction. Colon. Rectal cancer. They operated Rubbish ended up in his lungs. He couldn't breath by himself. Was put on a ventilator. Drugs keepin him alive for blood pressure and heart etc. Body in too much in shock. Blood test later in the evening showing negative results. The doctor's decided to let him passed and take his tubes out as he will not recover. He passed away peacefully I'm so sorry to tell this. Please passed this on if you can." SoundAndMotion
Thanks for letting us know. I had some spirited interactions with him, as you say. But he was knowledgeable, always wanting to help and had a sense of humor I enjoyed. He will be missed. May he Rest In Peace. Audiophile Neuroscience

Popular Post esldude
I was just informed of this. Sad news. The world is a slightly less interesting place without Alex in it. Alex was an interesting chap and his ardor for music and good sound seemed never to diminish. Rest in Peace and condolences to his family. John Dyson
I will miss him. Whether or not he and I would agree/disagree -- I really did like him. In fact, his opinion was so important to me, because I liked him so very much (Even though might sometimes vehemently disagree.) Sad sad day. It was very important to see that he was posting, and wondered why he seemed to back off. It was right after a disagreement, and I had a lingering fear that I had hurt his feelings. This is one reason why kindness is so important, and we should be so very careful to keep that idea of respect and caring in the backs of our minds. In the past, I had called him back (private email) to let him know all is okay. Sadly, because of my own involvement and focus in my own matters (not all self-involvement, but partially so), didn't do so this time. My own Mom had a health scare over the last few days (in fact, two scares), so I always feel *that* risk. Alex having to leave us really hurts. Alex -- I will REALLY miss you... manisandher
Thanks Chris. Really sad to hear this. I had some wonder conversations with Alex, both openly on the forum and in PMs. I'll really miss his enthusiasm for sharing his pursuit of good sound, come what may. fas42
What a shock! He only just sent me some files to look at ... 😧. As he has been for just about everyone, one moment you thought he was on your side; and then he would call, BS!, on the next post - yes, he was intensely motivated about audio, and it's good that such people are around. Rest peacefully, dear Alex - may they have the best quality, hi res upstairs, 😉 ... Audiophile Neuroscience 1 Frank http://artofaudioconjuring.blogspot.com/ Over and out. . Popular Post Superdad
Oh, this is VERY sad news! Alex had a kind heart and was (obviously) passionate about audio and music for many decades. He loved to stir the pot, would send unsolicited private messages to many of us here, but I was most always in good fun. I think one of the Davids here on AS--@Audiophile Neuroscience IIRC--was nearby and good friends with Alex and his family. I do not recall his age, but from his wisdom and his wit it seemed he lived a long and full life. R.I.P. --Alex C. I do not recall his age, but from his wisdom and his wit it seemed he lived a long and full life. R.I.P. --Alex C. Extremely sad news to hear of Alex's (Alex Kethel - SandyK) passing. If my calculations are right he would have been 82. Alex was a dear friend and I had the pleasure of knowing him in person. For the last several years he was fairly frail but (as we all know) his mind was razor sharp, as was his wit.I will miss our times together and many, many email chats He was a remarkable man, truly one of life's characters. Indomitable in spirit and full of enthusiasm for life, always looking to help and support others......quick to defend his and his friend's views. These traits spilled over into his numerous postings and passion exhibited on AS about audio and electronics. He had a great affection for the AS community and IMO this sense of community is something special. Some of his audio views were considered by some to be a little idiosyncratic, eccentric or just plain 'out there' but I believe he was one of the few that could think outside the box. The world needs people like Alex, and it is a poorer place for his passing. Popular Post PeterSt
Thank you for that beautiful photo, David. That's my Alex-inbox, with the first email in view. So yeah. Alex always managed to praise my products, without ever owning a single one. I was his contender, were it about being able to discern differences where others would not. The software I made to prove that the differences were there, was explicitly NOT let lose on his checksummed rips. It couldn't be (computer stuff) and I would not have an explanation when it would have been (different) after all. Dear Alex, rest in peace on the thought that you may have been right. -a pal- Jud and Audiophile Neuroscience 2 Lush^3-e Lush^2 Blaxius^2 Ethernet^2 HDMI^2 XLR^2 XXHighEnd (developer) Phasure NOS1 24/768 Async USB DAC (manufacturer) Phasure Mach III Audio PC with Linear PSU (manufacturer) Orelino & Orelo MKII Speakers (designer/supplier)
