And despite this, JRiver and Foobar2000 do sound the same, LOL.  Blind testing!  I'm not sure why anyone would think loading a track into system memory first would make a difference; it's not like the bits can go directly from the storage device to the DAC  -- a chunk of the file/track would need to be held in a buffer in any case.

Though as the OP I started this tangent in my own thread 😊, I think further posts along these lines probably belong in the following thread, where Paul and Mani, among others, are tracking down variations in frequency response in a DAC->ADC chain caused by two different memory handling settings (and only that change) in a single software player:

Okay, its been over a month since the announcement! Still waiting (I know later this year) but I have been  playing Spotify almost 7/24 with the hopes their AI will say "send this Spotifyle the invite to Hi Fi".
