Of course, the passing of Charley as a brilliant and disputatious mind with independent opinion is a bitter loss for the HiFi Audio community and Ayre in particular. Unfortunately, I was not able to meet him in person, but only had a stimulating email conversation with him now and then. I know Ryan, Ariel and Brent, and I am confident that they will lead Ayre Acoustics and its motivated team into a bright future. Charley knew what was coming and set the necessary course in time. beetlemania 1 Link to comment
Popular Post CG
Just listened to this. You really needed a few hours instead of just one, but... Anyway, I got thinking about the best version of Boom Boom. I think my conclusion is that the real question about this should be: Live Boom Boom or studio? Consider these - In my opinion, both completely slay any studio recording. But, thinking about it, generally my favorite recordings are live in origin. Whether it's the Allman Brothers at the Fillmore East, Jethro Tull at Carnegie Hall, The Who at Tanglewood, Chicago at Tanglewood, Zappa at most anywhere, or dozens of others, they all are much more entertaining and involving than studio recordings. That is especially true of jazz. (Of course, some groups fairly well suck performing live! Avoid them.) This is why I like a lot of YouTube music recordings. The quality usually stinks, but they are often very engaging. Perhaps I don't like slick and refined and prefer human. I've found that as I've improved the sound quality at home over the years, this has become even more true. Maybe that speaks as much to what most recordings are engineered to as anything else. That's my answer, and unlike Brent I'm sticking with it. The Computer Audiophile and spin33 2 Link to comment
