salkcin
Hi, I have a question for Ifi Defender 3.0 owners. The iDefender will use USB power from PC by default, but will block the power from PC and use external power supply (like iFi iPower) if detected. Question is what happens if external power source is connected, but the power for the external power supply is switched off? A. It will fallback to PC power if PC is still turned on. B. It will power off DAC. I'm curious to know since I have an USB powered DAC that is connected to a music-player PC in my living room which is always turned on, which means the DAC is also always turned on. I would like a way to power off the DAC when not used, but the PC also acts as server and needs to be powered on 24/7. The solution I have thought of is to use an USB splitter solution so PC provides USB data, and external powersupply provides USB power within the same cable. I want to know before purchasing the iFi iDefender. If it falls back to PC USB power when external power source is powered off, it will not solve my problem and I have to look for another solution. - Nicklas Link to comment

This inexpensive Zero-Zone power supply has an illuminated on/off switch, solid construction, and will improve the sound vs. your PC: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Finished-Zerozone-50VA-DC-LT1083-HIFI-Linear-Power-supply-50W-audio-PSU/324187931676?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 Why do you want to power down the DAC, does it contain vacuum tubes? If there are no tubes, most audiophiles leave the DAC powered constantly. “To doubt everything or to believe everything are two equally convenient solutions; both dispense with the necessity for reflection.” Bertrand Russell Link to comment
