Hi guys, what do you think? Version 1.8 is a big change that's for sure. 

 

I like it overall, but I have two main issues. 

 

1. I don't like buttons without tool tips or text that says what they do. I call it click around and find out. We have too many apps in our lives that we're required to have an internal Rosetta Stone that translates all the unidentified buttons in our lives. Not a fan.

 

2. Credits are my least favorite part of version 1.8. Look up Kind of Blue and try to find who the Remastering engineers are. Sure, there's a search, but it's not a pleasant experience, especially if you just want to look through the credits. On my Apple Pro XDR Display, it takes three pages to see all the credits. A text list would be so much better.

I really don't like the Recent Listening and stats area about what I've been listening to. Yes, this says more about me than Roon, but I'd love to disable it. I just want to listen without metrics.

Agree. I just wish the per track credits were as thorough as the per album credits.

I'm starting to feel like an old grumpy guy about version 1.8, but some things are just bugging me. For example, when is anything that's gray or grayed out the thing that's enabled or working? I'd say never. However, in the Roon Ready audio options, the gray items are the ones enabled and the white ones are disabled. Counterintuitive.

Really wish the zones had labels on mobile. I can’t tell which zone I’m controlling by just seeing the speaker. Clicking to see the list is an extra step each time.

Now my core can’t be found by my remote, even though it’s running fine and was just working.

The more I use Roon 1.8, the more I think the future of applications is modularity. Roon is really powerful, but for one team to decide how thousands of people experience their music collections is a recipe for disaster. There's no way a single interface can please everyone. 

 

The best way I see is to allow consumers the ability to enable/disable modules within the app and rearrange where the modules are displayed. In a way, it's like a digital audio workstation. I can customize Logic Pro and its windows endlessly to my liking. It would be great to enable this for Roon.

After blowing off the dust and hooking up a monitor keyboard/mouse to the Core 🤬 I was greeted with an OpenGL Error and a crashed Roon Core App. I had to clear the error and then proceeded to drop kick the Core (ie..reboot) and now it all seems to be working again.

Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. To me, every Roon upgrade has brought more complexity. I still love the app, but it’s long past user friendly.

I can see it now. A Roon “app” store to purchase custom themes and extensions.

Change is usually hard. Determining what’s not good versus what’s different can also be hard at first.

Still no way to see a record label’s content available on Qobuz or Tidal, like we can through native streaming apps. I want to browse ECM releases, but have to use the Qobuz app to do it. 
 

Also, I wish record labels were consolidated in Roon. Especially those with only case sensitivity differences. Example, ecm, Ecm, and ECM.

Anyone else have huge issues with Roon 1.8 this morning? Taking forever to load an artist's page, roon radio error messages, etc...

Sorry folks.  I tried to delete this post but couldn't. It is not a Roon error.  For some reason, my folder on my NAS is not available to mount.  I will try to figure it out, but it is some type user (me) error and not Roon.  I thought it was Roon because whatever happened to my folder happened at the same time I upgraded.

Sometimes you have to enter the domain after the NAS name. On many networks this is something like \\DS916.local\Music Folder Name
