FIndingit
The companies have really exploited the opportunity to rerecord what has been recorded at least 250 times before. I couldn’t believe my eyes just now, Qobuz Classical New Realases was all Beethoven. Say NO to ROON Link to comment
Marco Klobas
What I did appreciate was the “Beethoven in close-up”, a series of concerts by Berliner Philharmoniker's Digital Concert Hall, performing all of the composer’s string quartets and other chamber music works for wind instruments. https://www.berliner-philharmoniker.de/en/titelgeschichten/20202021/beethoven/ https://www.digitalconcerthall.com/en/concerts Link to comment

I couldn’t believe my eyes just now, Qobuz Classical New Realases was all Beethoven. Should we stop recording Beethoven as of now? Honestly, some of the recordings released for this anniversary are really very good, and often have fantastic sound engineering in 24/96 with a DR way above 12. Take Levit's complete sonatas, the recent piano concerto cycle with Helmchen, the early symphonies as recorded by Savall, the early violin sonatas with Frank Peter Zimmermann, Quatuor Ebènes complete cycle, all are welcome additions in the last 12 months, with often new insights, and performances at the very highest levels. Otherwise we could as well have stopped in the 1960s with Karajan's and Kempff's first stereo cycles. I'm actually really disappointed that the Beethoven year is soon over, I would have loved the opportunity to hear more of it live. Luckily I still was able to attend two fantastic concerts this year in spite of everything, Igor Levit playing the Sturm and Pathétique, and Lars Vogt and Paavo Järvi with Beethoven's 4th piano concerto. Both truly memorable moments. But fingers crossed we'll be able to see much more live music in the not too far future.
