Gavin1977
Hi need to get fibre to my SFN8522 network card. I am reliant upon Wi-Fi, as there is no ethernet cable into my living room. I use a Netgear mesh system and run an ethernet cable from the Wi-Fi access point to my music server. I could use a router with sfp built into it to undertake the conversion, e.g a stock Buffalo GS2016, Edgerouter X SFP or Sonore OpticalModule. Or I could get a new router such as the new ASUS RT-AX89 or Netgear x10 with sfp built in. Suggestions on best approach or other products? Link to comment
wklie
The SFN8522 is SFP+ right? The first three products you mentioned are not SFP+, if I'm not mistaken. Peter Lie LUMIN Firmware Lead Link to comment
Gavin1977
I don’t think it matters does it? Link to comment
wklie
Less than a year ago there was a case in which a SFP module failed to work in a SFP+ product. If you decide to go ahead with mixing SFP and SFP+, please report when you encounter an incompatibility. Gavin1977 1 Peter Lie LUMIN Firmware Lead Link to comment
JMotzi
If I understand correctly, you are using wifi to cover the majority of the distance and you want to replace the ethernet cable from the access point to the music server with a bunch of new hardware and a short fibre optic cable. Is that correct? For my education (sorry to not answer your question), what does that accomplish? Gavin1977
Sounds like I need to stick with SFP+ then, might be better if I go with a new wireless router Link to comment
Popular Post jabbr
Just use SFP modules on both sides, as SFP(+) NICa are generally compatible with SFP modules ... ore use a dual 10g/1g SFP(+) module e.g. Finisar, just be sure they are both either SX (multimode) or LX (singlemode) and you use either a multimode or singlemode cable.
