As DACs only (not preamps), I think many of them challenge more expensive units. In other words, if you don't need all the features and/or beautiful casework/knobs you can get something for a few hundred that probably demands an expenditure in the $2K-$3K range before you can beat it in any meaningful way. And in some cases maybe not even then. The quality of dollar output for a quality of DAC is a small fraction of what it was not so long ago.
