Uh oh Alex... Now you have done it by pinging folks! I was attempting to stay stealthy here by posting in this somewhat obscure thread. Hahaha. Although of course I have been sharing my experience with the "greater Sonore Domain" and advising to include 50 ohm external clocking compatibility in future Sonore products. Not sure why the EtherRegen is 75 ohm? My research indicates many more clocks available with more common 50 ohm connections, but perhaps even more important, there are many more options for fantastic clock cabling (via Pasternack) at 50 ohm without having to go to insanely priced "audiophile" options. BTW, this clock is around -100 dB @2Hz, and -130 dB @10Hz for a 25 MHz signal, subject to variations in the individual SC cut crystals, and the performance travels well over cabling as it is a sine wave clock with a sine to square converter at the receiving end. Of course it can do even better at a 10 MHz masterclock frequency. Given the SOTA in the DDS chips these days, I now accept it makes sense to use a really good external master clock source @10 MHz with an internal DDS to derive various need frequencies internally for DACs and network devices. I recommend Geistnote for digital cables. I don't see 50 Ω though as Geistnote targets the pro audio market which is almost exclusively 75 Ω spdif or 110 Ω AES/EBU https://geistnote.com/cable-assemblies/digital/ see my system at Audiogon https://systems.audiogon.com/systems/768 Link to comment
R1200CL
I think We need a new standard in transferring digital signals between audio equipment. And this should include clock signals by fiber. This sketch is almost 10 years old. What I don’t know if is the available electronics won’t introduce more phase noise than the use of a good 50 ohm sine cable. So there is another challenge @barrows to investigate 😀 Maybe @JohnSwenson has some thoughts ? Link to comment

If you already have a sine wave, a short distance cable (say less than six feet) will probably be better than any other active system you can use. Above 50 feet the optical will probably be better. The in between is where it gets interesting. John S, Link to comment
