Popular Post AnotherSpin
No doubt Windows was used by the aliens in the "Independence Day" movie. Otherwise, how did the hackers manage to infect their system with the virus? firedog, AudioDoctor and The Computer Audiophile 3 Link to comment

Relying on any consumer/business oriented OS or application for a space mission would be insane. mQa is dead! Link to comment

It doesn't matter do I believe it or not - since 1993, when I bought my first Mac (it was Macintosh Color Classic) up till now I do not recall a single issue with viruses on my home Macs... :-) At the same time, while using various Windows based computers in a working environment had virus related problems many times. d_elm
Windows has APIs that enable third party authors to develop software that aid user and corporate productivity eg. single signon. One of the core concepts is the injection of a dll into another user's address space. These same APIs are used by criminals. I browse and check e-mail with an iPad and only visit trusted sites with Windows. Real time operating systems have been around for a while. The first one I recall is QNX from the late 80s. If a government can afford to go into space then it can write an operating system for the purpose. Link to comment

seeteeyou
Thankfully we audiophiles do have access to something even better than real-time kernels, let's take a look at the corresponding latency of each flavor below http://artteknika.hatenablog.com/entry/2016/08/23/143908 http://mimizukobo.sakura.ne.jp/articles/articles025.html#001 If there were Raspberry Pi 4 sitting around and you're interested in comparing the differences between RT and Xenomai, here are 2 versions of piCorePlayer 6.1.0 with different kernels RT https://raw.githubusercontent.com/sam0402/pcp-8820hz/master/pcp610-88_96Hz-arm64.zip https://raw.githubusercontent.com/sam0402/pcp-8820hz/master/pcp610-88_96Hz-arm64.z01 https://raw.githubusercontent.com/sam0402/pcp-8820hz/master/pcp610-88_96Hz-arm64.z02 https://raw.githubusercontent.com/sam0402/pcp-8820hz/master/pcp610-88_96Hz-arm64.z03 https://www.stsd99.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?p=19058#p19058 Xenomai https://raw.githubusercontent.com/sam0402/pcp-8820hz/master/pcp610-88_96Hz-xeno.zip https://raw.githubusercontent.com/sam0402/pcp-8820hz/master/pcp610-88_96Hz-xeno.z01 https://raw.githubusercontent.com/sam0402/pcp-8820hz/master/pcp610-88_96Hz-xeno.z02 https://raw.githubusercontent.com/sam0402/pcp-8820hz/master/pcp610-88_96Hz-xeno.z03 https://www.stsd99.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?p=19132#p19132 pCP - Features https://www.picoreplayer.org/pcp_feature.shtml Link to comment

Back then, was the OS the System 7 something (or at least, classic Mac OS) -- famous for limited memory management and susceptible to conflicts among extensions that provide additional functionality, such as networking or support for a particular device, which was a factor in Apple's declining market share at the time. mQa is dead!
