Thunderbolt 3 AD/DA Audio Interface

I have a Thunderbolt 3 audio interface device on backorder.  I have used a USB device for years with older Macs, maybe decades.  While I patiently await it's (Motu M2) arrival, I was wondering:  For the many computer audio interface devices out there that have both in and out functionality, can the in and out be used simultaneously on two different tasks?  For example, use the A/D into the computer for recording analog audio to digital on application while streaming from the computer (different or same application), back through the Thunderbolt device.

 

You can assume:  New Macbook Pro, and assume the audio interface device has separate analog connections for the input and output.

Yes, absolutely. Most digital interfaces can provide digital input and output to the computer, simultaneously. In many cases, the AD and DA appear as two separate audio devices.
