In this case I find ASR very useful because there have been numerous cases where a product did not perform as well as the manufacturer claimed... in the early days this could have been the fault of the measurement setup/method by ASR. But I think these days he's sorted out those issues, because his measurements seem to correlate well with some other 3rd party measurements and reputable manufacturers. If it does do what the manufacturer claims, then the rest is listening with my ears (subjective tastes). I don't think there's anything wrong with this approach to be honest.
