Linux “Live cd” image for Roon Bridge?

This seems such an obvious solution that maybe I’m overlooking something. But is there available from somewhere a minimalist  Linux system  designed to boot from USB stick and just to run Roon bridge, similar to Jussi’s NAA images?  Thus allowing an everyday Win10  pc to be temporarily rebooted as a dedicated  Roon bridge.  I know it’s possible to compile such a thing, but I’m just looking for a ready to go image.  Thanks.

You can run Ubuntu from a USB stick, so if you can install Roon Bridge onto the USB stick then it should work (I guess).

GentooPlayer (both Embedded and Xfce4 versions) can boot/run from a USB stick.

 

Installed audio software = Squeezelite, Squeezelite-R2, Networkaudiod (HQPlayer NAA), Mpd, RoonBridge, Logitech Media Server, RoonServer, HQPlayer Embedded, Upmpdcli, Bubbleupnp.  Just choose whatever you want to run.

Thanks for the suggestions.  Gentoo player is the closest, but what  I’m really looking for is just a simple  minimalist image with zero configuration  to temporarily turn a pc into a RAAT appliance.

Unfortunately, Roon Bridge requires an OS to run on. Have you checked the Roon "Tinkering" forum to see if anyone there has played with this idea?

Yes, I use Audiolinux. It is very reasonably priced. You burn an image to a USB stick, and then you reboot your computer off the image.  Audiolinux supports both a Roon end point and HQ player NAA end point (and others). That’s what I and many others here are doing. I am using a small IBM NUC. There is lots of information on this elsewhere on AS.

Yes, presumably this is also true of NAA? I’m just looking for a Roon equivalent of Jussi’s NAA image - Roon bridge plus the absolute minimum supporting Linux OS on a zero configuration live cd.  I don’t have the time, inclination or technical chops to tinker, but (to me at least) it seems such an obvious thing to want to do that I’m surprised  Roon themselves don’t  offer.

With GentooPlayer it would take less than 30 seconds after your first boot to set it up to do what you want (which is to automatically run RoonBridge after booting).

 

Steps: 

 

1) Since you want it simple (absolute minimum), download the Embedded version (either BIOS or UEFI, depending on your computer).  Burn it to a USB stick with Etcher.

 

2) Boot the USB stick.  Log in.  Username = root; Password = gentooplayer.

 

3) At the command line prompt, type gp-menu.

 

4) Hit 1 for Players/Server.  Hit 5 for RoonBridge.  Hit 4 for Add to the System Boot.

 

5) That's it.  Whenever you boot the USB stick now, RoonBridge will run.  So either reboot (hit 0 to exit the menu and type reboot at a command prompt) or, while still in the RoonBridge menu, hit 1 or 2 (to start RoonBridge).
