Allo USBridge v. SOtM SMS200 (basic)

Hi,

 

I'm trying to decide between these two entry level units. My overriding concern is for sound quality. 

 

Could users who have experience with both weigh in. 

 

SMS200 seems to have cemented its place in the field, but the Allo is also making major waves with every iteration.

I too am looking for best streamer that simply does usb out to my dac in the cleanest way. 

Currently got a pi4 but surely there is better stuff

Hardware quality matters... wasn’t that impressed with the Allo devices as other than budget entry level devices. SoTM builds good gear

If you can find a way to audition some streamers, that's what I'd suggest. You will find out if they sound better than the Pi to you.

The sMS-200 and sMS-200 Neo sound excellent in my system powered by UpTone LPS-1.2. Dead quiet and excellent frequencies at both ends. Value wise, either is a good investment.

My previous set-up was Intel Nuc I5 connected to the dac (RME ADI DAC2) and with Roon Rock running; I've moved the NUC away form the dac and bought a SoTM SMS200: this move changed everything in terms of pure quality and listening pure pleasure; I'd say go for the SoTM!
