This topic seems to rise and fall like the tides. A warm or bit-more-than a bit warm is normal, by all accounts. When I first put mine in, I did all kinds of temp, ambient temp, and RH readings. It doesn't impact sound. Feel free to have fun though. The only thing I think is helpful, if not weighting it a bit, is getting one of those laptop clamp stands to position it vertically, if the cables are lifting it, etc. Cheers... Popular Post MarkusBarkus
...maybe digest things a bit and see where it all settles out for you? I think the "stream of consciousness" output isn't helping advance collective knowledge on the topic, and the assumptions which provide the foundation for your thesis seem personal, rather than technical or always applicable to the larger community. As I see it, FWIW: 1) Identify the timing/clock related "issue" you are trying to solve/improvement you are trying to make. Make a schematic! 2) Research the solution and supporting gear (you are looping and stuck here). 3) Cross-reference against budget allocation for project. 4) Purchase gear that meets above criterium, including compatibility with existing components. 5) Listen, evaluate, enjoy. 6) Tell us how you made out! The audio river is always flowing, and wherever you jump in, soon there will be a newer/better/faster solution. And you can't know everything. That's the only prediction I'm comfortable making. Good luck, sir... treitz3 and PYP 1 1 I'm MarkusBarkus and I approve this post. Link to comment
Popular Post MarkusBarkus
Interesting thread. I thought recording studios, engineering and scientific labs used a quality external clock to synchronize multiple devices to the same level of precision within a system. It seems like a lot of the clocking posts here are of folks using external clocks to improve individual devices, sometimes using multiple clocks/devices in their audio chains. Q: Is the intent additive precision? Q: Is it thought that this approach is more economical and/or yields higher precision than buying "better specs" up front? Honest question. I have no axe to grind here. Cheers... PYP and treitz3 1 1 I'm MarkusBarkus and I approve this post. Link to comment
Popular Post MarkusBarkus
Dedicated/audio only fiber to home. Nokia ONT, eReGen, Nighthawk WiFi router, Sonore OM, 10m SM fiber, PFBuffalo switch, Taiko Extreme, MScaler, DAVE on DC4, etc. Three dedicated power lines (network gear, general gear, Taiko) and LPS supplies. Seems to work OK. PYP and R1200CL 1 1 I'm MarkusBarkus and I approve this post. Link to comment
MarkusBarkus
There are many good options for placing the EthernetReGen, and I have placed it in most of them over the past year. Recently, I chose to use it upstream for isolation in my network gear. That might change at some point. It's a great product and I recommend it to friends. Good Luck! MarkusBarkus
I have a Luxman SACD player that doesn't get much use these days, and an Aurender ACS10 which was my storage and streamer before the Taiko. Turns out I like streaming and the server-side of digital a lot more than I thought I would. I started about 18 months ago with an RPi3+ and a WD drive for a NAS, using the dac in the Luxman player. It sounded very good, but I knew I could get more out of digital. Here I am. I haven't done vinyl since the 90s some time. I had a wall completely filled with records, but I moved to Japan for a while and just gave them all away. And I like Kyoto over Tokyo! Hope all good on your end... Actually people should know what they’re buying. You will be surprised what’s inside 😀 Very. @R1200CL IMO you have (multiple times) implied that the AfterDark products are not what they are advertised to be, and that there is some level of deception on their part. Do you have specific, factual support for these comments or not? If so, it's a service to the community and to potential buyers. If you do not have such information, maybe you might consider discontinuing your negative campaign. I mean, you're kind of pissing on the guy's front lawn, right? Do you have an AfterDark clock your self ? I do not use an external clock of any brand, but I enjoy the thread. I'm not sure not having a clock on my eRG negates the validity of my observation and comments to you, as I was making the point that you were suggesting AD was into some sort of deceipt, but offering only your opinion as proof. I *think* you may think if a company doesn't directly design and develop every component in its product, there is something bad going on. Companies use many components designed and manufactured by others, from enclosures to the actual components inside. Silly example: companies don't usually manufacture the resistors and capacitors inside...but they may well test/measure them for internal QA before use in their products, or test boards fabbed by others. A company may purchase 100 OCXO units, which have the same spec, but upon testing, some might test *better* than others. The best ones may be used in product A$$ while others may be used in product B$. I recall some high-end audio manufacturers note this for their flagship products with ultra-precise crystals, for example. The issue would be if the more expensive A$$ product used the lessor B$ component. IMO one is purchasing a finished product, and if it works as advertised and you can afford it, all is good. If purchasers open a 100 dollar device and find there are only 10 dollars worth of parts, they might feel cheated, but I'm not sure that tells the entire story. A lot goes into spec-ing, procurement, assembling, etc. Now, if a product does not *perform* according to the advertised specs you paid for, that's a legitimate complaint, but taking pics of PCBs and parts numbers only tells a part of the story, IMO. treitz3, ZeusOdin, nichino and 4 others 3 1 3 I'm MarkusBarkus and I approve this post. Popular Post MarkusBarkus
...these castle dwellers must not be audiophiles. By building the bridge, they have connected the isolated castle to the land, and lost the protective element of the "moat" surrounding the castle.
