mattpitts74
Hi Guys, I have a ALLO USBRIDGE SIGNATURE which I have been using connected to a NAD D2030 which has a built in DAC. however this has now stopped working, so I'm looking for a stand alone DAC with usb input to pair with the Allo. My budget is a max of $500. Any suggestions much apprecaited. I was considering the Shiit modi 3 or maybe Dragonfly?? Link to comment
matthias
I have a Khadas Tone Board DAC which I use with a MacBook Pro/Audirvana and like it. The USBridge Sig is more than able to power it via its USB Vbus. Matt "I want to know why the musicians are on stage, not where". (John Farlowe) Link to comment
Mortsnets
+1 on the Khadas Tone Board - a great value. I would want to check out the Metrum Flint, Soekris 1321, Schiit Bifrost 2. These may stretch the budget a bit unless buy used. I have the Schiit Modi Multibit and like it but much prefer it using SPDIF input. Other affordable dacs I like: Halide HD (no longer made so used), Starting Point Systems (Non-oversampling) DAC3. Link to comment

Thanks guys for the interesting suggestions, I think the schiit is out of my budget, but the Khadas looks interesting. sounds like you'd rate that over the modi 3? I'm also considering adding the DIGIONE SIGNATURE board, as I hear many people rate the output from that over the usb output? Link to comment
Mortsnets
I don't have a Modi 3 but do have an original Modi and a multibit version. I would guess the KTB is more detailed and lively sounding. The KTB sounds good to me with either usb or spdif input. Link to comment
