DuckToller
Question to the pros and the computer DIY brigades: What would be your choice? I am contemplating 3 different solutions for finding the best route to go to re-build my NAS (UNRAID 6.7 with 8xWD Red:2 Parity/6 Data) - looking for a newer ATOM C300 supermicro board with 8+ SATA connectors (i.e. SuperMicro A2SDi-8C-HLN4F + New DDR4 RAM - which is nice, but comes as a unwanted financial challenge), appr. 6-700 Euro - A 2020 consumer (gaming) main board (Micro ATX or smaller) from ASUS/ASROCK/GigaByte, sporting 6xSATA and M.2 connection plus PCIx16 for connecting a dual GBit Intel card (consumer standard is Realtek), and a low powered AMD Ryzen3 processeor, needs newer RAM as well. Appr. 350-400 Euro - buying an out of lease office system (i.e. HP/Dell) with Intel Xeon E3 1240/60 and 16Gbyte RAM then transplanting it to a suitable Intel motherboard like the Asus P10S-M-DC. (alternatively a new Xeon E3-1220v5 with 8GB RAM), Appr. 500 Euro All of them solutions have some advantages .. pls share your insight and experience Cheers, Tom Link to comment
Popular Post DuckToller
Thank you for helping me making a decision 😉 I ordered a Gigybyte C246 board (intel1151) the C246M with 8 Sata3 ports, using a Pentium Gold 5400 boxed (coffee lake) and some pretty standard Corsair value select 16Gb DDR4 2666 RAM (I've used this quality the last 15 years and had not a single fault to note, the old NAS MB was running with Corsair XMS3) - Invest 350 Euro. Thanks for reading 😉 adamaley and motberg 2 Link to comment
