I ran 6 through the Anubis and you can get 8.  Just have to configure it correctly.

There is only one clock in the U-DIO8 and it is the one in each of the outputs.

I have no data on this, only the verbal assurance of the manufacturer that the channels are synchronized.  I will take a look at the circuit board and see if it reveals anything.

 

"No comment" on the Okto purchase but, given its rarity, how can you lose?

I took a look and there is a single clock running four BB SRC4382 Two-Channel, Asynchronous Sample Rate Converters with Integrated Digital Audio Interface Receiver and Transmitter.

Neither of those options are as inexpensive as the Okto DAC8.

I am struggling to make it work with HQPlayer embedded. There might be a problem with the XMOS firmware inside of the DAC. 

I've used it with the PinkFaun 2.16x and HQPlayer embedded.

I had varying issues with the PF and the DAC8 Pro playing MCH which were dealt with various channel mapping settings but seemed to recur.  They were all resolved by using HQPe.  Sound quality was not affected regardless of those issues.

I doubt it.  I use JRiver but I play them as files.

I would like to amend that statement.  Since one can set JRiver to be the Windows default audio device and one can set Jriver to use USB or any other target output, it should be possible.
