That's Bull. Here's a challenge then... As I understand it this comment and similar reveal exactly what the issue is. You might think it's petty and worthy of ridicule but this is important and won't go away - it's a question of values and maybe there is something to learn even for you. I applaud and welcome this attempt by Chris to correct something wrong. Claiming bewilderment and hairsplitting technical points is disingenuous or reveals a considerable lack of understanding of human nature. I don't believe this is really about objective / subjective, it's about the common good - which has been severely eroded in all areas of public discourse to the point it seems quaint to even bring it up. marioed, Waveforms1, Bill Brown and 2 others 5 Topaz 2.5Kva Isolation Transformer > EtherRegen switch powered by Paul Hynes SR4 LPS >MacBook Pro 2013 > EC Designs PowerDac SX > TNT UBYTE-2 Speaker cables > Omega Super Alnico Monitors > 2x Rel T Zero Subwoofers. Well said 5 hours ago, firedog said: tmtomh said: I believe this problem was inevitable, because this site always has represented the coming-together of two very different cultures, I understand your main point but I will wait and see how this pans out. I wish it didn't have to be this way, but if I can go to the sub forum and follow technical discussions and advice without having to wade through pages of snark and repetition of fixed positions then this will be appreciated by myself and I imagine many others too. I tried visiting the quoted example of ASR as a source of info and quickly found it an appalling place. DIYaudio is a fine example. Lets see if this is recipe for a happy marriage or even a happy divorce. marioed, Teresa and audiobomber 2 1 Topaz 2.5Kva Isolation Transformer > EtherRegen switch powered by Paul Hynes SR4 LPS >MacBook Pro 2013 > EC Designs PowerDac SX > TNT UBYTE-2 Speaker cables > Omega Super Alnico Monitors > 2x Rel T Zero Subwoofers. So when they are called on their incivility, they react as if they are being restricted in the arguments they can make or when and where they can make them. 15 hours ago, tmtomh said: But I see too many folks responding to this conflation with a mirror-image error: When objectivists now complain about how they feel their ability to participate here is being restricted, the reaction is that they just need to be more civil. This is why @pkane2001 has gone 12 rounds with Chris about the "grey area" issue: if the answer to "why is objectivism restricted to a single subforum" is, "because we all need to be civil and emotionally intelligent," then naturally pkane and many others are going to ask the logical next question: "So how can I know if a comment I want to make or an argument I want to put forward is civil enough to remain in a thread, or if it will get removed and put into the Objective-fi subforum?" If there is genuine concern about whether the tone of posting, by the poster, is civil enough this situation would surely not have arisen in the first place. The attention itself would have curtailed the problem and CC would not have had to take such measures The Computer Audiophile and Bill Brown 2 Topaz 2.5Kva Isolation Transformer > EtherRegen switch powered by Paul Hynes SR4 LPS >MacBook Pro 2013 > EC Designs PowerDac SX > TNT UBYTE-2 Speaker cables > Omega Super Alnico Monitors > 2x Rel T Zero Subwoofers. To be concrete, to me it is pretty clear that arrogance is a product of irrational thought.
