Gated shifter, and syncros that aren't as great as todays. If it even has syncros. Plus, as mentioned above, cost of replacement.

I am pretty sure they are still using tubes... Something about resistance to EMP, I think.

There are a few manufacturers using them today, most notably Balanced Audio Tech.
