Looking around at these ASUS Sage motherboards and the Intel Silver CPUs, they come up second hand quite a bit, so with a little patience two CPUs and a mobo can be bought at quite a discount... Something to think about.

Yes I use Exact Ripper. I spent countless hours last year re-ripping my CD collection, over 1000 CD. I recall at the time, when I finished it all I was feeling quite happy with myself!. I then seen @romaz saying something along the lines "don't think you can just RIP the collection on any server, the quality of the server matters" My jaw dropped, I thought 2 things..1 being "Dam I should of used my music server for my ripping and the 2nd being there's no way I am redoing my CD collection again!!!

Well that is a can 'o worms really😀  Basically, I went from a "flat" scheme (everything on the same network) where all traffic/broadcast is flooding the switch.  To then creating a vlan scheme to work with my enviro.  I think I created 5 vlans all with their own DHCP range/server (routing). 

1. wlan secure (AP1)

2. wlan secure (AP2)

3. wlan guest (AP2)

4. wlan insecure IoT (AP2)

5. LAN secure (home wkst/laptops etc..)

6. LAN insecure IoT

 

These vlans are between different switches as well (upstairs, downstairs etc.) in which you need to setup trunk ports to bring these together (I use fiber) and specify the valns within these manged switches.  All this then needs to come together on L3/routing and setup all the FW rules so these sep networks get access / see only what I specify.

 

I'm oversimplifying this and by no means a network guru.  I spent a considerable time creating a pretty intricate diagram for the design/layout as documenting all this is absolutely necessary.  I was also (through a friend's contact) able to provide my diagram/concept past a network guru and he gave me some feedback etc.

 

I'm not sure if that answers your question.  It would be nice to have a network section for this kind of topic as there are plenty of smart network engineers on here.  Although, I would imagine fielding network questions may get old if that is your full time job etc..

 

 

 

Exactly what I done last year. Isolating one side (home network) to other side (audio side) via fiber works well. I have my network layout in my profile on pdf.

I’ve tried various exotic cables!!! nothing I’ve tried so beats Furutech DPS-4.1. My whole system runs on these! 
 

£400 pm

£600 NCF connectors & SR fuse

 

£1000 total. Sold my TQ statement cable, costing far more than £1000! 
 

Like my Sablon & Ethernet cables, I won’t be upgrading any cable again. Diminishing returns!

The DPS-4.1 gets rave reviews across the board. Another good bulk Furutech cable is the FP-S55N. Cheaper but not necessarily a major performance compromise (From what ive read). @ASRMichael have you built anything with FP-S55N?

Yes, I had the 2 FP-S55N before. Also really good cables. I used these for my amps before upgrading to DPS-4.1. My TQ powered my DAC, but replaced it with DPS-4.1. I also think there is synergy by having same cables. They take a good while to break in. 
 

I was lucky to buy 4m from someone in this thread at a very good price.
