sphinxsix
Class A tube car amp. I had very good Focal speakers in my car back in the 90s which I'm sure would have sounded just great with a good, tube amp. Actually the maker of my home stereo tube (6C33C tubes from the 80s used in MIG fighters, often used in BAT and Lamm amps) amp was ready to make it ('hmmm.. that would be some challenge') but I gave up the idea.. Frankly - I regret! Might have looked like this Link to comment
Popular Post sphinxsix
Some other crazy ideas. I've read an article by a (British, I believe) audio journalist who described making two holes in his listening room wall (he did't use the space behind the wall) and fitting two huge Tannoy concentric drivers into them to get closer to the idea of the infinite baffle. I've also heard of Japanese audiophile who had a horn shaped ceiling with a bass woofer of his SET/horn setup placed up there. These two ideas at least make some sense, the one I described here long ago doesn't (I apologize for quoting myself): Quote But there are musicians-audiophiles too. Just one story. Once, while still being a dealer I met a musician from a top band (kind of local Rolling Stones) to whom I had sold a really good system (Utopias, DCS etc..) a couple of years earlier which sounded really great after we set it up in his 40+ sq.m. basement of the house specially designed listening room. Good room. He said - 'you gotta hear it, I have seriously taken care of the room acoustics'. I couldn't refuse. I was really curious. I paid him a visit and we went downstairs. The serious care meant the guy covered practically every inch of the room walls and ceiling with thick damping acoustic panels. The room acoustics were so weird (overdumped, dead) that I couldn't recognize my own voice when I spoke. And I mean it. The music sounded horrible. Dead dull. Just one thing was fantastic but weird at the same time - the stereo imaging was pin-point sharp. But so extremely sharp that you could practically visualise a vocalist or an instrument accurately to 1mm. And it had a size of 1mm too.. All in all - the weirdest sound I've ever heard. And not cheap.. tmtomh and AudioDoctor 2 Link to comment

I bet there are more than a million audiophiles in Japan for whom none of the above crazy ideas is that extreme.. AudioDoctor 1 Link to comment

Popular Post sphinxsix
Actually buying my first audiophile quality system and thinking it would be the last one proved to be maybe not crazy but unrealistic.. Ralf11, semente and AudioDoctor 1 2 Link to comment
