I want to mate a better power supply with my EtherRegen. It looks like the sweet spot for pricing / performance might be a Farad Super 3. Farad recommends the 7v 3A PS. This is rated higher on the amperage then recommended by Uptone Audio:

  7V/1.4A, 9V/1.0A, 12V/0.8A. 
Is this extra 1 1/2 amp an issue at all?

Does higher voltage sound better or is the 7v just fine?

OK, this was great, I think I got my question answered.

I’ve just added a Farad Super 3 to my EtherRegen. I’m shocked at the level of improvement. I was skeptical, but this power supply upgrade from the stock power supply to the Super made as much improvement as my recent DAC upgrade.  Space, texture, continuous and resolution all took a huge leap up. After few days, it has even fleshed out better. Now Qobuz streaming is closer to the sound of my files off my Hd. 

 

I have modest switch ahead of the EtherRegen that also provided improvement to the sound of my network. I was first thinking of adding an inexpensive linear supply to replace the cheesy power supply on this switch. Now after experiencing what the Farad Super 3 did for the EtherRegen,  I’m wondering if I would experience a similar improvement with a Farad on a switch.

If you are not sure about type and rating of fuse, I will first contact the manufacturer before experimenting with aftermarket fuses. For safety reasons, you don't want install wrong type and amperage of fuse.

 

I can recommend SR orange, if your funding let's go. Like them in every component I installed, JS-2, dac, even headphone amp.

 

 

Just a heads up, I’ve  been told that Synergistic Research will be offering a Orange fuse special  in August, buy two orange fuses get the third one for free. I plan to take advantage of that.
