EtherREGEN: Installation, Usage, Difficulty, Questions thread

Recommended Posts

Had a similar issue a few days ago with new eRG and Aurender ACS10. Would not stream. Network all good. Swapped ethernet cable eRG to streamer. Nope.

Refreshed Conductor app on iPad a couple if times, but it took about an hour of ignoring it and coming back to it before all was fine. All green lights and streaming.

I know it's apples to applesauce, and not common troubleshooting practice, but maybe check back in a bit? I know that is frustrating advice...

scolley, if you don't need a "conditioned" outlet from a PS, but an ordinary AC outlet, you could potentially convert a duplex outlet in the wall to a double.

Not sure if you're comfortable with that, but it is manageable to add a duplex outlet in your wall. If it's not your thing, an electrician could do it easily.

Result would be two duplex outlets, side by side, in a double box. You would jumper outlet to outlet, same feed, so should be no issue with ground loops.

This based on not many details about your needs, what's on the circuit already, etc.

Hello David. How hot is so hot? Do you have a way of measuring that?

I found readings of ~114F max. I made "aggressive" mods and I lowered the temp 3-5F. It fluctuates. To keep the moderator happy: These mods made no discernible difference to my ears! 😉

And BTW the honchos at UpTone have stated there is no heat issue. To me, it seems that is indeed the case with the case.

I have not personally heard any issues with sound degradation based on fluctuations/ increases in ambient or case measurement temps. BTW: this room is below grade, so temps range from 68 to 73F. Pretty consistent year 'round, FWIW.

So how hot is "so hot" anyway?

Bernard, when I posted about temps, I used a Klein IR1 infrared thermometer.

I took a number of readings near the center of the case top. That device is +/- 4F, so not precise enough for a deep study of the subject.

It did give me an idea of what the temps were idle, running, with modified cover, etc. which was interesting.

I could not perceive any differences in SQ relative to temp differences. That's likely not a surprise to anyone, given the narrow range of temp fluctuations at my location.

The hotter the unit, the shorter the operational life.

I made many measurements of unit temp, ambient temp, etc. and listened quite a bit. I heard no differences I could correlate to temp up/down.

I only modified my unit because I *think* heat is an undesirable element for solid state, per @scolleyabove. I get that there

might be exceptions, or parameters that describe good heat levels for crystal "ovens" and the like. Happy to be wrong about that, but that's what I "learned" circa '74.

@Duckworp you could do what you describe with the fiber cable.

There is a lot of info re: fiber on adjacent Uptone thread too, but in summary, be sure to "match" the wavelength frequency of your SFPs and cable.

You need to also be consistent with Single Mode (SM) or Multimode (MM) transceiver (SFP) and cable type. All three "components" should share those attributes.

Additionally, it has been noted by others more knowledgeable than myself, that you need to use Cisco or Cisco compatible SFPs due to an ID the Cisco device expects to "read" for the handshake.

I successfully used a Cisco compatible (not Cisco branded) SFP in a 2960 switch. If you follow the general guidance above it should be straight forward to make that copper run of yours fiber-based.

There are folks here that can help if you get into Cisco issues, but I did not "manage" my switch; it was just plug and play. Good Luck!

Maybe the Farad does not deliver enough stable power to the ER during the first few seconds

...I think this may be the case. If you manually turn off the devices you have managed, but then turn on just the F3...and then a minute or so later, other things, it may well reveal that dependency. Good Luck!
