Hi guys, will someone help me with the right SFP module to use with the eR?
Tks Jorge

I had purchased this, before EtherRegen arrive. From Sonore website

Tks. I also ordered spare  one when I bought my oM, but it doesn’t seem to be working. Will try again!

Hi Jorge:

(Note that I have moved your question and related answers out of the Listening Impressions thread and into this one.) 9_9

Make sure that your SFP modules are fully inserted. They might seem so but go ahead and push in a bit harder.

Previously I did not have a lot of experience with LC type SFP modules. But during EtherREGEN Q.C. testing we at first would often encounter a board where it seemed the SFP would not data connect. Even though it seemed like the module was fully inserted, pushing it in a little harder got it working fine.

That’s all I can think of for you. Assuming of course that you have matching modules at both ends and the correct type of fiber cabling.

Tks Alex! Just discovered that if I connected it to my router it works! The problem seems to be related exclusively when It is connected to the Cisco.
So:

i) router >(copper) > oM > (fiber) > eR > (copper) > uR - ok

ii) router > (copper) > Cisco (copper) > oM> (fiber) > eR > (copper) >uR - no connection ( the light in the rj45 port is off)

iii) router > (copper) > Cisco> (fiber) > oM > (copper) > uR - ok

Cheers Jorge

Cisco is most likely NOT gigabit

You’re right. Just the fiber port. It’s explained!

Hi folks! May I ask you how you are grounding your eR’s? Type of cable/connections/etc.

Thank you Jorge

It aint the best looking solution but keeps the eR below 40C in a cabinet that is around 30C. Each heatsink is mounted with heat transfer tape.

I have the eR mounted on the wall and the cabinet is fan cooled.

Thank You for the picture. Will you please indicate the link for the heat sink. I will most probably move next year to a tropical country and I want to be on the safe side.

Cheers Jorge

Hi John,

Thanks for the insight. These sfp modules were working fine initially. I tried two different pairs - one from TP Link (SX) and the other is from Planetech (LX) which has been reported to be working fine with eR

https://planetechusa.com/product/mgb-tlx-mini-gbic-lx-module-20km/

The Edgeroute end shows the link to be up. I am assuming if the connector didn't made contact properly on either end, the link would probably not come up. However, I have no way to check this on the eR end.

I will retry pushing it firmly and see if I can make it work.

I must say that this module didn’t work with my eR. I received on Tuesday and no matter how I pushed it, it doesn’t work. Cheers Jorge

Did you buy a matching one for the other end as well as a single-mode fiber cable? Because the transceiver he linked to is a single-mode type.

No. I have returned to the one I was using before. The one recommended to use with the oM. No complains from my side. The sound is wonderful. I just jumped on the new one because some audio fellows recommend it. But probably  I should have ordered 2...  🤭

Come in Houston........

For reasons which escape me I cannot connect/ play to my ultra Rendu  from the ‘b’ side of my EtheRegen anymore! The ‘A’ side has Macmini/Audirvana into one port and my network connection to the sfp. If I switch the ultrarendu cat 6 to the A side , it all works seamlessly.

Any ideas gratefully received.

I don’t have a single clue but I can confirm it works eR can feed an uR trough the b side.

Hi Blake:

You can certainly try it that way but in general we discourage EtherREGEN owners from using "bridged" Ethernet ports in their servers as such can sometimes cause extra latency and hiccups (stuttering, dropouts, loss of connectivity) with some network audio software protocols (Roon RAAT, Signalyst NAA, DLNA, etc.).

[As an aside, despite Melco's vague description about their Ethernet ports, looking at high-res photos of the N1A Mk.2 motherboard just shows two ports with (naturally) separate magnetics--and separate PHYs (the larger of the two probably contains the Ethernet controller for both). And I am not too keen on how far away they put those PHYs from the magnetics. (Look in red rectangle at top of the below pic.) Still, I very much applaud whatever efforts they have made with the ports. :)]

Hi Alex!
No problems from my side using the bridged ports of my Innuos Zen MKIII.

Best, Jorge

Thanks, I have found it, the OM seems to be only 1Gbit compatible, so does not work with ER's 100Mbit port on the B side...

Use the fiber port. 😀

Thanks Andreas but I think you are jumping WAY ahead since he has to describe his set up and gear. (And "bridging" in the server is not something we normally recommend as there is much that can go wrong with that.)

Just to share with the community that the eR in my systems sound far better after the server than before it! This configuration also benefits the files in the HD and not just the ones that come from streaming.

With both BT7 and the AfterDark EG, the Mine-circuit improves noticeable SQ.
