Anyone Tried Out The Mhdt Lab Orchid DAC Yet?

It got a great review from a very respected audio reviewer, and appears to be an amazing bargain. I absolutely trust his reviews, based on significant past experience, so this has to be good. Add in the fact that Linear Tube Audio is representing them in the US and it's a more than interesting prospect.

The review contains a few typos, mainly in numbering of various ICs. The most misleading one in my view is in saying it uses 'OPA86 opamp in its I/V'. A quick check on the manufacturer's website shows that it uses 'OPA861' which most certainly isn't an opamp, rather a 'super transistor' or 'OTA' designed to operate open-loop.

I do own a MHDT Orchid. It replaced a Simaudio Moon 280D in my system a couple of month ago. I‘m very happy with the device.

 

If you can live without DSD aso and you‘re looking for a natural sounding DAC without any blingbling I fully recommend the Orchid.
