kirkmc
That's the way it was in Mojave. Once you start playback, you can control it. I was told by a source at Apple that they don't plan to add that type of discovery any time soon. I write about Macs, music, and more at Kirkville. Author of Take Control of macOS Media Apps. kirkmc
This is weird, but the Remote app was working fine before the Catalina release, which is why I didn't react above. I have a screenshot I took of it for my new book (Take Control of macOS Media Apps, to be published today), but I went to use it this morning, it wasn't working. I've contacted Apple to see if they can tell me anything. I don't know if this is a bug in Catalina or if the iOS app needs updating. It's worth noting that the app is called iTunes Remote, and, while I can't imagine that they would drop support for the Music app on Catalina, it's entirely possible that they have given up on it. This would be a big shame. It's also worth pointing out that the Apple Watch app has the same problem, but it's a subset of the iOS app. Snowdog 1 I write about Macs, music, and more at Kirkville. kirkmc
What's most surprising is that you can see and navigate a library, but you can't control anything. But, as I said above, in Mojave, you couldn't initiate playback from the app; however you could control it once it started. I write about Macs, music, and more at Kirkville. kirkmc
I just now got an email back from a high level source, who I asked if the iOS app was going to be updated. His reply was: Yes.
