On a different vein (but same general discussion) the following is from the diyAudio forum (one of the threads linked to earlier in this thread about the first feedback on the USBridge Signature). It's about the tech improvement differences between the USBridge Signature (based on RPi 3) versus the newly released RPi 4. It was posted by soundcheck and I've just snipped the key comments (full post here if anyone wants to see it):

The problem with the USBBridge signature is that it was already outdated at the time of launch (due to unexpected PI4 launch). The Allo intention with this product is quite understandable. Bad luck, bad timing, though.....

...with the still rather new PI4 at hand..., I have to say there is no looking back to good old PI3 times.  The PI4 comes with so many new features, a fast PCI-E lane, separate networking stack, USB3, 64bit support asf. Of course you'll also have onboard WLAN and BT5.0. On top you can run whatever (64bit)-OS you want. And more...

So curious for some comment/thought on whether these factors are really of any significance given the fairly specialist task the USBridge Signature is designed for? Obviously some might be specifically for @allo.com to comment on, but value comments from anyone informed on the subject(s) - this is not my area of expertise (RPi)! 😁  Just curious to explore as I do t see these being as big a deal as the OP implies?

  • What benefit would the Fast PCIe lane provide to have any significant real world improvement? I assume the Ethernet port and such that use the PCI-e bus are more than fast enough anyway for the bandwidth of all current music files - so faster is better but not necessary?
  • USB3 - yes can understand some benefit here - but can't see the application of it being of any significance in the USBridge Signature's operation - especially as asynchronous USB DAC interfaces are built around USB2.
  • Assume there could be some benefit of the x64 support but again while its useful in a jack of trades RPi 4 may not matter for a specialist customised deployment like the USBr Sig?
  • And I don't see the big issue around the onboard Wi-Fi and Bluetooth - useful going forward - would be a bonus but not essential here again?
  • The other thing not mentioned is what's the difference in processing power cache, etc? Is there a noticeable step up?

I have been using RpIs as renderers for years. After sometime I dumped RPi3 for RPi2. Does it make any sense to your questions?

So whats the verdict? Is it not possible to use a 6V sealedlead acid battery? Will it burn up?

Don't think USBridge Sig is for me then, I rather buy a used ultraRendu or something similar that can be run from battery.

My Usbridge Sig works well when powered by 5V 1A Bakoon BPS 2 battery (no HDMI, no bluetooth, no Usb storage).
