labjr
Wow! Some serious competition for Tidal which is pretty much the main source for MQA. If I had to guess, Amazon probably won't use MQA because Amazon has the upper hand in everything they do. However, we'll have to wait and see. Link to comment

MQA isn't used, according to the report in The Verge: https://www.theverge.com/2019/9/17/20869526/amazon-music-hd-lossless-flac-tier-spotify-apple I was trying not to be too giddy because it was just announced. However everyone knows what happens when Amazon get's into your business. Take a walk around your local mall if you want to see. Link to comment

I see Qobuz as fitting this niche for audiophiles. We like to communicate to the companies when metadata is incorrect or playback settings are messed up for some USB DACs etc... This will never happen with Amazon. I don't shop at Walmart unless there is no alternative. But I go to Dollar Tree and Dollar General! They're even cheaper! oneway23, The Computer Audiophile and lucretius 3 Link to comment
labjr
I would think every competitor is worried because the Hi-res market is pretty small and Amazon has deep pockets. They can hold out until the competitors starve to death. I mean Pono didn't last and Onkyo is going out but Amazon is getting in? I wonder if Bob Stuart is on the phone with his attorneys? Does anyone know what Amazon is paying artists per stream compared to the other guys? I didn't know the company that does the streaming would decide what the artists is going to be paid? However, this is nothing like an Amazon vs Main street war. That's Amazon killing brick and mortar commerce. This is one online streaming service vs. another. I see it as Amazon vs the entire streaming market. Amazon is diversified. The other players aren't and will likely lose because they can't survive on the tidbits that will be left when most people chose Amazon. blue2 and Bootzilla 2 Link to comment

HD means CD quality to Amazon and Ultra HD is anything higher. More to come about BluOS streaming 96 and 192. Is there a price difference? Link to comment

With FLAC compression it usually ends up in the 4-5 Mbps range. I was going by what I see in Jriver when a 192k file is playing. Link to comment

May as well just forget all the linear power supplies, cables, etc and just get a Bose or a Sonos. It's really the same thing, all this talk of jumping ship. There's hope for Sears too! A cassette recording of a bootleg LP of a Springsteen concert was something I treasured until my cassette player gave up the ghost. But I’ve also had wonderful experiences hearing old familiar performances more clearly (particularly Beatles and John Lennon). So I think it’s not either/or, but both. The cassette probably sounded better than the Born To Run remaster. The Computer Audiophile and PeterG 1 1 Link to comment
