Best OS for PC music server?

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

I have a music server, but it is not a dedicated one and the machine that is currently the server is overkill for this application so I wanted to build a dedicated one that would be a lot smaller.  In terms of OS what version of windows would be the best?  I'm guessing that linux would not make the cut but I know linux so there's that.   I'm not sure if I want to spring the $$$ for Micro$oft server but....

Has anyone tried this or heard of it?

Anyway, gathering opinions before I make a decision, thanks!

There are several threads on Euphony - you should check them out.

Here's the main one in Music Servers:

source:  intel nuc8i5 (audiolinux, roon core) > intel nuc6i5 (win10, ao, fidelizer pro, dirac live, roon) > schiit yggdrasil (gen 5, analog 2)
headphone rig:  bryston bha-1 > senn hd600
two-channel rig:  bryston bha-1 > parasound a21 > monitor audio gx100
