daveJr
I would like to transmit 24/192 audio files from my Mac Mini to a DAC that accepts either SPDIF or Coax for this data format. I am looking for the cheapest available mechanism with good quality. Is there a way to use Firewire out of the Mac and convert it to SPDIF or Coax to feed the DAC? Dave Link to comment
The Computer Audiophile
The Weiss Engineering INT202 is just what you need, but I'm not sure it's the cheapest solution. Founder of Audiophile Style | My Audio Systems Link to comment
daveJr
The price I have seen is $2000, which is way too much. I was hoping to find something for less than $200. Maybe the INT202 does a lot more than I need, but the price is way too high for what I need. Dave Link to comment
SteveChicago
Dave. I'm using the M-Audio Profire 610 ($350) Uses same Dice II chip as Weiss (tho topology likely is not as good). But sounds very good. daveJr
Yes, I ran across this too. For me, it still seems too much to pay for just connecting the Mac to the DAC. Dave Link to comment
ted_b
it needs to be good or your sound will suffer. What is your DAC that is allowing you only a $200 budget for the computer interface? audiozorro
then you should consider the M2Tech HiFace 24/192 USB to SPDIF converter that is excellent and only costs $150. If by chance you are using an external hard drive with a USB connection you should probably purchase an eSATA or Firewire interface or new enclosure case for that drive. Either of these should cost less than $25-50 and the data transfer speed will be significantly faster than any USB interface. Link to comment
