HeeBroG
Hi All, Just like to notify everyone that Paul has just responded to my email sent a month ago. He and his family are well but self isolating at home during the "lockdown". The PS build calendar is therefore on hold for now but he hopes to resume work in June. The patient wait continues but in the context of a potential global meltdown; there are more important matters at the moment. Popular Post paulhynes
Hi Geoff, Stephen, the Paul Hynes Design Ltd Production Manager has just called me to say you have posted about my e-mail on Audiophile Style forum. Unfortunately this thread that you have posted in has historically referred to both my old custom build service (now closed to new orders) and also matters related to Paul Hynes Design Ltd production, so there may be some confusion between the two. Stephen has asked me to clarify on the thread that he is still operational and progressing PHD Ltd orders at the PHD Ltd premises. To further clarify, PHD Ltd is not directly involved with my old custom build service although they will be using their spare production capacity to help me progress the outstanding custom build orders once the Covid-19 lockdown restrictions are relaxed and the other furloughed staff return to work at their premises. As soon as it is deemed safe I will be back at the PHD Ltd premises to progress the outstanding custom build service orders with their help. R1200CL
@paulhynes Hi Paul Do you think there will be a DR version SR4T ? Andreas Link to comment
your momo
Highly unlikely due to size a 2nd regulation stage would take, also DR is one of the remaining differentiator from "custom builds" vs "batch build". Nevertheless if Paul is available for an update on his on going SR7 custom build activities, it would bring a ray of light in this very dark 2020 year... Link to comment
Johnseye
For anyone shipping to the US, I highly recommend shipping via an alternate carrier like FedEx. Default shipping method from PHD is Royal Mail which then goes to USPS. Total time to date since my pair of SR4-T's shipped has been 2 weeks and they just cleared customs, so I probably have another half week to wait until they get to me. This really does PHD a disservice because Stephen did a great job in turning around my order quickly. Adding nearly 3 weeks due to shipping is unnecessary when there's an alternative for a slight uptick in shipping cost via a better carrier. Audio System Link to comment
Johnseye
I received my 19v SR4-T after 19 days of Royal Mail to USPS transit. My 12v SR4-T was apparently lost by USPS as tracking stopped on May 30th. Not sure why they were shipped separately as they were both shipped on the same date. PHD is filing a claim and building a replacement. Audio System Link to comment
internethandle
Ugh, that sounds like a nightmare. FWIW, my SR4ST-12 (ordered mid Feb, arrived approx. mid to late April) took about 10 to 12 days to arrive from South Uist to Southern California via the standard Royal Mail -> USPS route. Still, I've had numerous issues with USPS bungling domestic shipping in the past, with probably one pretty seriously delayed international item, as well, so yes probably safer to go a different carrier if possible. str-1
Notwithstanding the title of this thread, why has there been so little discussion of the SR5/SR5T? Unlike the SR4, it has an audio-grade transformer, it provides more current, and is significantly less expensive and smaller than the SR7. SR4 & SR7 has its separate treads. Only 5 units SR5T is built every month. It can be made in a switch voltages settings and in fixed voltage settings. The latter with a DR (dual rail) option. It’s somewhat unclear to me if the T version of the SR5 applies to all options. (F/S/DR) To me the main reason to consider a SR5(T), would be that one need more power (ampere). It would of cause be interesting if someone could test any SQ difference between the various options. I guess the Novel tread my give some insight. My SR4T was ordered in May, and will be shipping this week 😀 https://www.paulhynesdesign.com/products Someone with the interest and skills maybe start a tread better explaining options and prices than the Paul Hynes website as first post. BigAlMc
I ordered on 9th June for July list. I changed spec from SR4T-12 to SR4T-19 on 29th June. Ok that's on me. But I guess there is a bright side to PHD build schedule. Work hadn't commenced so change of spec wasn't an issue and Stephen was great. I anticipate delivery towards end of July or perhaps in August. I ordered a Farad Super3 on the 4th of July. I plugged it into my system yesterday. 9th July. Popular Post paulhynes
Scotland has its own Parliament with devolved powers to control much of how Scotland is governed and it is currently applying lockdown relaxation measures at a slower pace than England. So far our island has had no confirmed cases of Covid-19 infections and this has mainly been due to the ban on incoming non essential travel, with the exception being for essential key workers and food supplies. Travel restrictions are now beginning to be relaxed, which is quite worrying, as this may lead to Covid-19 reaching the island and many of the islanders are considered to be high risk due to age. If cases of infection occur lockdown will be re-instated here rapidly. With respect to activity at PHD Ltd premises and my progressing the Custom build schedule :- I am currently conferring with Stephen at PHD Ltd with regard to returning to the workshop in the near future. At present Stephen is working alone at the premises and has been working solidly without a break since the lockdown began. He is looking forward to having his production staff back in the workshop so he can take a much deserved holiday. Currently the work areas at the premises are not conducive to having all the staff in occupation at the same time with adequate social distancing, so, to comply with regulations, Stephen will be re-organising the work areas as best he can and he will likely stagger staff working periods where possible to make the best use of the workshop facilities. Orders for PPE are starting to arrive in preparation for the return to work. A re-organisation of the workshop to place my custom build work in a small office unit was planned back in March but Covid lockdown delayed this and the re-fit still has to be finished before I can continue with my custom build schedule. This will take my priority on returning to the workshop. Once completed, I am looking forward to moving the schedule forward again, hopefully without interruption this time! spotforscott, k27R, R1200CL and 5 others 7 1 Design and manufacture of high performance power supplies Link to comment

Paul - I feel like you're responding to me so I'll reply. No one is denying that lockdown presented significant challenges and no one is complaining about PHD. I said Stephen was great. And I'd recommend him in a heartbeat for attentive, friendly, helpful service. So I say this with all respect due and after us corresponding for the last couple years you'll hopefully understand that I am sincerely respectful. The fact remains that ordering a Farad Super3 involves receiving a highly regarded LPSU within a week, in a beautiful box, with great communication. Now whether the SR4T or Super3 is better I cannot comment on. But I will say this. Farad is the better customer experience and you receive your purchase a whole lot sooner. None of this is intended to be offensive or aggressive. Rather its my heartfelt hope that PHD is in a comparable place by say this time next year. Currently ordering from Farad equals satisfaction this week, whereas ordering an SR4 equals delivery next month or perhaps the one after that. You guys need to address that. All due respect there's a lot of room for improvement here. And I say that as a fan. Popular Post Johnseye
Stephen was ready to send me a replacement to one SR4T that was lost in transit. Literally a day before he was about to ship the package started moving within USPS. It arrived on July 2nd. About 2 months shipping time. Avoid the Royal Mail-> USPS carrier service. None of this was Stephen or PHD's fault. He was very responsive and helpful. No regrets there. Nenon and bobfa 2 Audio System Link to comment
