Mcintosh Light - Are You Kidding Me?

$1500 big ones for a light inside a box. Absolute shame what the new owners have done to the brand, whoring it out like this. Am i wrong here?

Yup. A tune up on a Ferrari is 20 large, brakes are 25...Mercedes parts are also absurdly priced.

Actually a Ferrari “tuneup” is about $6K, and it needs doing yearly. If you have a Ferrari with belt-driven camshafts, you need to do it every year or every 17,000 miles, whichever comes first!

Unbelievably silly. Never been a McIntosh fan, but this is ludicrous. OTOH, as someone else has noted, if they didn’t think it would sell, the company wouldn’t make it.

Hard to take them seriously at this point. They really have become the brand for rich people with more money than brains. Sorry, but its true. I see this as only hurting the brand's credibility.

McIntosh probably did a market research and the result was that their prime costumer thought the McIntosh green light was more important than the sound, so they skipped audio circuits altogether 🤑.

I agree that is crazy. This seems to be a better deal: you get 3.62 kg of McIntosh Clock for just  $1,800! 

As for hi end clocks market the price to weight ratio makes it IMO just an unbelievable bargain.

You'd love how it make your system sound so much better. Tighter bass, darker backgrounds, highs are just off the scale, better definition across the full spectrum, no need for expensive cables - all of it is just with one box!

I once loved this brand. Heck i even owned a car amplifier too. They can sell whatever they want, that's capitalism and i get it. Could they just sell the damn light for a couple hundred instead?

How appropriate to sell a product that fully exposes the notion that many people purchase a McIntosh product solely because of the name,  regardless of performance or common sense.

 

This product speaks to the broader issue that either McIntosh does not possess the ability to manufacture devices at an affordable price or that they grossly overprice them.  I come away thinking there is little value to be had in a McIntosh product.

I stopped taking them seriously when they released their first "vinyl revival era" turntable. 

 

The MT10, an OEM turntable made by Clearaudio, with an unnecessary frontplate added.
