I only have 24 bit files, or DSD.

RME ADI-2 Dac Will do DSD 256 on Mac, because of its very high PCM rate.

ExaSound does DSD 256 on Mac with its own ASIO Drivers.

Awfully pricey, tho.

Also different Dacs and playback chains.

That great CD will generally sound even better played as a File with AV or HQ.

I am very happy with File Playback, VS Disc.

Upsampling to DSD 128 is great, for me.

Macs don't ordinarily do DSD 256.

What Dac do you use?

I adjusted Sox to Linear Phase, pulled the slider over.

Are you sure all AV Settings are correct for Dsd upsampling?

What Disc Player do you have?

Don't you need a separate driver, like ASIO for DSD256?

The Mac  won't do it without something like that, or the super high PCM rate like the RME ADI-2.

The current Myteks won't do DSD 256 on Mac, for example.

Any way, that's just what I've read and maybe misunderstood.

Where is the Control Panel on Mac?

I have a few Dup Files, some have a few Tracks divided between them.

Also have  at least 20 Files embedded within one Jimmy Smith Album.

I deleted the Library and re-did it, same results.

If Windows and Mac OSs make no difference as to sound quality,

then Direct Mode, which no longer works in Mac without the Hack, is/was Bogus.

I don't see any other conclusion.

I use AV anyway ( on Mac ), but not as much as HQ.

Since your Dac isn't compatible with El Cap, the last Mac OS that supported Direct Mode,

moving to a Windows Computer is probably your best move, for DSD 512 and Direct Mode.

I also use HQ, which has some dither options, but I never use them, as I upsample everything to DSD 128,

as I do on AV.

El Capitan is the one to use with AV.

It enables Direct Mode without the Hack.

I don't think you've been using Direct Mode on High Sierra, without the Hack.

It's not even Listed on my Mac w/High Sierra.

It ended with the one after El Capitan.

Some here have EC on dedicated computers, like you are talking about.

Get EC if you can.

Direct Mode was a BIG selling point at one time.

No reason to think it doesn't make any difference.

I wish I was up doing the Hack to my High Sierra OS, I was going to have my Computer-Guy do it, but now, well, forget it!

No luck with the fix for Duplicate  Music Files.

Nothing terrible, but several Dupes.

Me too, and now I can't load "Somewhere" by Keith Jarrett into the Library at all.

And I can't drag and drop like I used to on earlier versions.

There are a billion tracks, don't find "Somewhere" in there, or in Lib/Albums.

I deleted a very few Duplicates, and they've stayed gone, but one, "Somewhere" with Keith Jarrett Trio, 

puts each individual tune in a separate File.

And I have found a few Folders within other Folders from time to time.

Like an Easter Egg/...!

AV won't upsample DSD at all, only PCM to DSD.
