WAV from Discogs

Recommended Posts

Hy all,

I use Discogs for all my album art since it seldom dissapoints me. Picture size, quality and the music choice is my kinda thing. It's set up as a market place where one can buy or sell records and CD's. But it turns out they also sell WAV downloads! I will give this a try and report.

I am interested in the Belgian eighties Synth/Industrial band "Poésie Noire". Their old CD's sell for 40-100€ now. I only have 2 tracks from them on my Mac, and a 20-year old cassette with the album "Tales Of Doom". It's rather cold music, reflecting the pessimistic mood in eighties Belgium (Unemployment much more than US that era and the "Bende Van Nijvel" gang killing people randomly). You guys had Tom Cruise.

But now they have a new album called "Sense Of Purpose" that Discogs sells in 192 kbps (€9), 320 kbps (€10) or WAV (€13). I am sure it will be no more than 16/44.1. I will download and convert to AIFF.

Downloading proces went flawless. Payment is via PayPal.

Bitrate of WAV is 1411 kbps, hence it's 16/44.1 allright.

New music is still kinda cold. Reminds me of Anne Clark or Cabaret Voltaire. Thinking man's Synth Pop. It's not about swallowing XTC! Life is difficult, the world is depressing and you better be aware of that...

The artwork here seems fine. Some of the files are a little small if you want to display them on an HDTV but many are good. Are you familiar with Album Art Exchange? This to me is the best site available for artwork with over 120,000 covers posted and minimum sizes of 600 x 600.

After searching artwork on this site a litter further I found a couple of interesting things but overall I would highly recommend you try the album art exchange. The quality in general in my opinion of the artwork is much higher.

I know this site, someone reccomended it here to me, earlier this year if I recall correct. Back then, the catalogue volume was limited. Which is very frustrating. I just checked back and it seems they didn't stand still. Very good quality; Thanks for the reminder.

Discogs however gives you loads of other info about the albums.

But my post was about the WAV download on Discogs. I would not mind that they used FLAC instead. This ensures faster downloads (better yet, ZIP them) and better metadata. Converting to a Apple format is no pain with XLD.
