dongi
I didn’t hear either of them. Can someone give a summary of SQ differences between the two? I am not after super duper perfect measured “hifi” sound. 3D imaging/soundstage, analog sound, musicality is what I like. Link to comment
Popular Post rruffin
Both of them sound pretty darn good - accurate highs, realistic mids and solid and rich lows. I would say that biggest difference is the original Digione has a "flat" soundstage whereas the Signature adds some front to back depth. The other thing to note is that the Signature, with its separate powering of the sound card (digione) and computer (raspberry pi), there is much more room to experiment. Folks use batteries to power the digione (clean side) and either the supplied switching power supply or an inexpensive linear power supply from China (under $100). Hope this helps... ipeverywhere and dongi 1 1 MacMini Quad i7/Audirvana Studio/USBridge DigiOne Signature Player/Schiit Yggdrasil GS/Aragon Palladium 1 amplifiers/Stacked Energy 22 speakers (Reference Connoisseur on bottom & Pro 22 on top) set tweeter to tweeter/Kimber Monocle XL speaker wires/Straightwire Crescendo & Virtuoso IC/Mordaunt Short 309 subwoofers Link to comment
Popular Post ipeverywhere
I've never heard the Digione and I've very limited experience hearing digital transports. Before owning the Digione Signature in my own system I was using a MBP (2009) via USB into my DAC. Software on the MBP was either Audirvana+ or Roon Bridge. My DAC is a Gungnir (original) with a Gen2 USB board. The biggest difference between the MBP and the Digione Signature was placement and separation of instruments. Both left to right across the stage and even, maybe, a very slight front to back. Although my system, admittedly, has never been any good at front to back. Looking at the very raw specs of the Signature vs. the Digione and reading Allo's description of the difference and why they chose the design they did: The extra cost of the Signature makes sense to me so I felt good about buying it. As far as sound quality goes... Not a night and day difference to my ears. The better placement gives better clarity to the recording but I don't believe I gained any significant sound quality improvements. Taking away soundstage and placement the stuff that was already well defined, because the recording was good, still sounds good; not better. The Digione Signature has not made anything sound better, more realistic, or changed the overall dynamics of my system. However, it's ability to place better place things in space and the fact I get my MBP back (which I'm now using as a Roon Remote) makes the Digione a great deal. Really happy I got got. Unless you're trying to avoid the whole clean power/dirty power complication of powering the thing I'd stick with the Signature. Its additional cost makes sense to me. I really fear if I had gotten the Signature there would be no difference between my MBP and I would have been disappointed. dongi and rruffin 1 1 Link to comment

I have found that the Audirvana 3.5/DigiOne Signature combination is quite amazing! I have found that the Audirvana 3.5/DigiOne Signature combination is quite amazing! I switched to Roon and my D1Sig is running RoPieee. It would take some work to reconfigure everything to use Audirvana -> D1Sig at this point but, since I never thought of running it that way until you mentioned it, I think it's worth a listen. When I free up some time in the next few months I'll add it as a project and let you know how it goes. As a side note... I've never had my music stored locally to the player. It's always been stored on a network share and/or I've just streamed from Tidal/Qobuz. This allowed for a fairly quick transition to Roon. It should allow me to get Audirvana working again fairly quickly but I'd have to build a DietPi image on the D1Sig and that's the time I don't have right now. Link to comment
