Hmmm... gp-update doesn't work on ram mode and on non-ram mode I don't have that error message. Besides I gave the command gp-update and emerge-webrsync before alsa-dw. Option 1 of Ramsystem didn't help either.

sorry, if you can try again ...
exit from the rammode
gp-update
option 1 of the ramdisk
and again in ram

Ciao Filippo, I have tried it again today and wow! Success! Grazie!

I guess I can play with selectkernel a bit now and priority things. 😃

Edit: hmm.. I noted the date is wrong.

@antonellocaroli Filippo, how to identify the version of RoonBridge? It seems it was updated with Roon 1.6, too.

Grazie.

to check the version in the system:

cat /opt/RoonBridge/VERSION

cat /opt/RoonServer/VERSION

to update:

gp-update

emerge --ask RoonBridge

emerge --ask RoonServer

I've just updated the ebuilds, should install the latest versions (RB 1.0.169, RS 1.6.390)

thanks Filippo, I used gp-menu and it is recompiling now...

After some hours of recompiling I got to the menu for chooising the videocard. I wanted to choose Intel gen 4-9, however that gave an error message; I could only choose nVida (option 1) or AMD (option 2). The by mistake I hit Ctrl-C and I exited to the GentooPlayer command line prompt. It appears all is working after a reboot. Did the recompile succeed or should I start again?

And another question: does recompiling make sense after a fresh install on the right HW?

no, it was not successful, or rather it was compiled (part of the toolchain).

can you post the contents of the make.conf file

wgetpaste /etc/portage/make.conf

and the result of

lspci -v

recompilation is not necessary in most cases.
it's just a refinement of the system, that is, recompiled for that specific cpu ...
can it bring benefits? most likely yes .... but for our uses, perhaps it is superfluous ...

but on my systems I always do it ... and often I also compile the kernel for my specific HW .... but these are really advanced things ....

Thanks Filippo,

I am doing a new install now, because I also got some strange error messages at startup.

Hi Dennis,
for the recomupilation of the system you can proceed like this:
change the contents of the make.conf file

nano /etc/portage/make.conf

delete the content and copy it into this:

CFLAGS="-march=native -O2 -pipe"
CXXFLAGS="-march=native -O2 -pipe"
CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu"
USE="alsa icu -consolekit -libressl -bindist -qt3support -qt4 -qt5 -X -introspection -pulseaudio -xscreensaver"
PORTDIR="/usr/portage"
DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles"
PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages"
ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="amd64"
ACCEPT_LICENSE="*"
INPUT_DEVICES="evdev"
ALSA_CARDS="*"
GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://mirror.netcologne.de/gentoo/"
VIDEO_CARDS="intel i915"
MAKEOPTS="-j4"

then give the command:

cpuinfo2cpuflags-x86 >> /etc/portage/make.conf

and then:

emerge -1 sys-devel/libtool

emerge -1 sys-devel/gcc

emerge -1 sys-devel/binutils

. /etc/profile

emerge -1 sys-libs/glibc

emerge -1 dev-libs/boost

emerge --exclude="sys-devel/gcc sys-devel/libtool sys-devel/binutils sys-libs/glibc dev-libs/boost" -e @system @world

the above command results in this message:

Or maybe better to continue this via PM's?

Hi.

A suggestion it there's time for that would be to add a new 4.20.XXX NONE Realtime Kernel. Would like to try it out

with NATIVE DSD.

I did the play entire file from separate flac files and used C-3PO to upsample to NATIVE DSD256. It's a little hard on my

i3-4130 in my music server.

I bought a used Topping D50 Dac for this experiment and it's almost as fun to listening now , as with my much more

expensive Chord 2Qute DAC which runs DOP as a joke.

Thanks for gentooplayer and keep up the good work 🙂
