How about offering a 2nd SFP as an option?  I have fiber today but with a different connector, so I'd need another SFP to plug into my router anyway.  Keeps it simple!

or just a different cable?  Cable providers will terminate with different connectors to suit, as long as you have a Gigabit SFP.  Fantastic quality optical cable is cheaper than good quality CAT 6A...

We will have an option for this in the drop down menu when you order the unit.

The opticalRendu has only USB output and it will pear up nicely with an ultraDigital which has SPDIF via BNC.

I don’t get into these types of comparisons. There will be plenty of feedback from users when we start shipping.

Updates:

 

Roon certification is nearly complete. The hardware has passed their certification process and we just owe them some artwork which we will submit right away. The next release of Roon should have the opticalRendu intigrated in.

if you are planning on using single mode simplex fiber, the SFP must be in matched pairs so that the Tx and Rx wavelengths line up properly.

you noted you were going to offer an option to purchase a 2nd SFP with the opticalRendu.

can you also offer an option to leave out the SFP if we already have a set?

 

p.s. I've run 15m of single mode simplex fiber from my router........only one piece missing now

I am on the fence about buying an UltraRendu now or waiting for the optical.  Will the ultra have an upgrade path to the optical?

You will still need an external PS right?

Jesus mentioned earlier that the Ultra cannot be 'upgraded' to an OpticalRendu.  The devices differ too much for this to be possible.  OpticalRendu will still need a PS.  The OpticalRendu is about $400 more than the UltraRendu.

I think it bears mentioning that the opticalRendu is not just an ultraRendu with an optical input.  The opticalRendu is (nearly) a completely new design, with many improvements.

The SFP modules need to be Gigabit only.

That is TBD...  I have not even built a first prototype Signature optical (yet).  If/when Sonore does offer a "Signature" level opticalRendu one can be assured it will be optimized for the best possible performance.  There are a couple of power supply changes I will be testing...

It is also very likely that there will be an upgrade program for current Signature Rendu SE owners (The Chassis, transformer, and power supply in the SRse make up a significant portion of the cost), as these customers have a very significant investment in their Renderer.

As for silver, I do not know.  Perhaps...  offering even two faceplate color options adds significant complexities and expense to inventory management and is difficult for a low production volume product like this.  The black faceplate on the Signature is a really special finish and looks fantastic (no way can pictures do it justice) but we understand the desire of some customers for silver...

The other option will be to use the ultra with the opticalModule. When the pricing comes out on the oM you can make a judgement if that's something you want to do.

No because we have been regularly updating it as we go along so when the opticalRendu launches we have a consolidated operating system across the series.
